Excellent Book for Beginners and More By Nicholas Sarlo Introductions to python are easy to find -- but at the end of the day most python tutorials for beginners end up being the same lessons repackaged, often leaving the new programmer with gaping holes in how their newly acquire skills can be applied practically. This is not one of those books.The book begins with the essential skills and concepts necessary to build a solid foundation in not only python, but programming in general. The introduction is thorough, easy to follow, and broken down with enough examples for even the newest of programmers to digest. Those who found Learn Python the Hard Way a little frustrating will like the much more broken down process used in this book.But where this book stands out is the second part where you actially build useful tools you might need to use everyday. The author does a fantastic job of bridging the concepts and skills you learned earlier to real world applications, without skipping many of the important things other tutorials ignore like regex.Whether it's organizing files, working with spreadsheets, or even sending e-mail and text messages, the book introduces programming concepts to the reader through real world applications they can build and use immediately. While programming puzzles and challenges are fun and necessary to an extent, there is little more satisfying to a new engineer than building something that can actually do something useful.One of the biggest hurdles new programmers face is not knowing where to go or what to build after their introductions. Even more so, they do not know necessarily how to apply their new skills. For those more interested in day-to-day applications than building games, this is an amazing place to learn by building with python. I would recommend this for any new programmers, and even those who are interested in exploring what they can build with their foundation.

Petersen I'm an electrical engineer who programs a lot both at my job and at home. My non-programmer sister wants to learn how to code and I was interested in learning Python both for work and hobbies, so I picked this up to teach myself and evaluate as a gift for her. Needless to say, I'm pretty satisfied with it and I expect that my sister will be too.Python is a fantastic language for beginning programmers and Sweigart does a great job of explaining it. The only beef I had with it is that some of the humor in the book may interfere with comprehension. Humor is great to keep readers engaged and help prevent them from stressing out about stuff that can be intimidating, but there are a few times here where I felt the quality of explanation suffered a little to squeeze in a joke or geek-culture reference. Note that my complaint is minor enough to not warrant taking a star off of the rating.The book's focus on automation in the second half is fantastic. Most other programming books that I have used are no where near as pragmatic and it's great to be able to apply your new knowledge to your own life immediately. I also recommend this book to anyone who has a boring job sitting in front of a computer all day. Learn to automate your tasks and do a month of work in a day.

About the Author

Dr. Nan Duerling has been writing and editing curriculum resources for youth and adults since 1984. The editor of The New International Lesson Annual, Nan has also contributed to resources including Mature Years, Scriptures for the Church Seasons, Seasons of the Spirit, Leader in the Church School Today, and Bible Lessons for Youth. When she served as a member of the Committee on the Uniform Series of the National Council of Churches, Dr. Duerling participated in the development of the annual cycles for the International Lesson Series and worked with the youth team as a consultant. Nan taught in the Course of Study School at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. from 1987 until she retired in 2008.

Nan lives in Cambridge on Maryland’s picturesque Eastern Shore with her husband Craig, her mom Ruth, Craig’s mom Helen, and two lively Curly-Coated Retrievers, Ada and Bentley, who are registered therapy dogs. The Duerlings are members of historic Zion United Methodist Church, where Nan leads a weekly lectionary study group for the community.

About the Author Janet Rice Davis

was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where music has always been an integral part of her family life. 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. difficult transition to playing at speed By Gary Aitken While in general the topic is covered well, the supplied audio tracks are difficult to work with. Licks and short demonstration sections are played very slowly so you can understand what's going on, but complete tunes that you'd like to play along with are only supplied at full speed. If you can do that already, you probably don't need this book. The audio is not in mp3 format and not easily transferred to a hard drive. Because it isn't easily available in mp3 format, one can't use a "slower-downer" program to build up speed playing along with the supplied tunes. Your only option is to try to play at breakneck speed to keep up with the supplied audio tracks for full tunes.

It's a good resource, but you should find a way to get through it the first time without getting bogged down in all the multitude of licks, passing tones, etc. I think the information could have been organized better such that the reader could begin using just a few of the techniques without having so much presented all at once. I actually found it a bit discouraging. However, I can see that if you really study this and get all the way through it, you'd be proficient at backup techniques.

IntroductionPurpose - The purposes of this study are:(1) To construct a scale for the measurement of general mental ability, such scale being: (a) suitable primarily for administration to the pupils in grades 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of the elementary school, (b)capable of being administered to groups of at least 50, (c)so constructed that the scoring is both rapid and, as far as possible, free from the error of the personal factor, (d)built upon the general plan for an Absolute Point Scale outlined by the writer (see Ref.10). Such construction would involve the validation and graduation of the tests, the determination of the probable error of a determined measure of general mental ability, etc.((2) To investigate the correlation of the mental abilities tested by the scale. It is not deemed feasible, in the space to which this article is limited, to attempt to discuss the nature of intelligence, such as it is presumed to measure by the present scale, nor the various definitions of intelligence which have been given or may be implied by the various intelligence scales in present use. These subjects will be touched upon in various connections in the discussion. The writer will therefore proceed immediately to describe the manner in which the present scale was constructed. II. The Tests Requirements of a Scale for Mass Testing. The chief object of testing in groups, of course, is economy of time. One of the most essential means of accomplishing this purpose is that the responses required be very simple. This makes for speed both in the administration and in the scoring of the tests. The work is a photocopy reprint from THE JOURNAL OF EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY, Vol. IX, Nos. 5, 6, May-June 1918. The IQ test Otis devised was for use in grades 4 through 8, and his concepts of what constitute intelligence were later explored and expanded for World War I (1914-1918) testing and placement of military men in what has become known as the Alpha Tests (Forms 5-9). Her speaking engagements include women’s retreats and conferences, a Keynote at the ICISF World Congress and addressing the Honor Guard at the International Association of Firefighters Memorial. She homeschooled her 3 children without ever succumbing to pressure to wear Birkenstocks and now lives with her husband whom she shamelessly manipulated into falling in love with her. He obliged by sweeping her off her feet with a large broom. They now reside in Michigan.

This book will hold you spellbound as the author shares her journey and that of her family as they endure the unthinkable, losing a father and husband to death. It is incredibly sad and yet encouraging and uplifting at the same time. She's been there. She knows the incredible challenges and what it does to the partner and family that are left behind. She has such insight and such a gift for being able to share it in an easily readable and understandable way. I have shared individual chapters with others and it has touched them deeply. I have bought extra copies to give away to friends who going through similar circumstances. I would recommend this to counselors and pastors and Hospice... to anyone about to go through, going through, or struggling with the aftermath of losing a loved one. I also recommend it to anyone just wanting to understand what a family member or friend is facing when this becomes a part of their life story. It is beautifully written and touches the heart in so many ways. I hope this is not her last book on any subject.

From page one, I realized this book found me. Her story so intimately mirrors mine. Not only am I a widow, but I also lost my beloved to the same inferno called A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease). The parallels of her story left me amazed and unable to deny that she knows my furnace. There have been countless, informative books written about the universal and tragic experience of grief, but "Life After Breath" goes beyond the emergency of death and into the metaphorical "burn unit" of its recovering survivors. I would highly recommend it to all those, who are searching for relief in their grief. I am convinced that the balm of this book can comfort any "burn victim" wounded by any loss. My two favorite words, of this survival-kit-of-a-book, leapt off of page 8. "Love stays." Susan carefully nails this reality directly into each chapter and adroitly weaves this precious truth into every word picture she paints, as she explains that love is fireproof. She shares that her husband was a brave firefighter. It didn't take this reader long to realize that, on a spiritual level, she is also. Her Captain (God) has taught this gentle recruit a blazing truth and transformed this refined firefighter into a fire-writer. She writes about fighting fire with fire, and reminds us that our Superior is a consuming One.

I found with each section completed I was more inspired and more confident to plunge headfirst into this dynamic new way of considering myself 'wealthy.' Evan Tarver not only has taken the time to thoroughly research and analyze this concept, he has a charismatic way of connecting the reader to build it within themselves. This personal connection takes his ideas to new heights as the reader begins to truly understand and want to develop these practices. I highly recommend this book for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is a valuable lesson in personal and financial wealth that everyone could stand to learn.

In today's society, the pursuit of traditional wealth is highly sought after. We all strive to pursue our happiness and passion first, but most of us sacrifice them for monetary stability. Our definition of wealth does need to change. This book has provided great insight on how it is entirely possible by following the four principles of wealth. As a millennial, I believe that the world is shifting away from “traditional” forms of wealth, and moving toward the new forms of wealth that Evan writes about in the book. While I’ve believed in this idea of the new rich for a while, I’d never put a name to it or concepts around it, but the book lays it out perfectly. I can definitely see how following these four principles of wealth will not only make you wealthier than you ever thought possible, but happier too!

Quick, simple and effective By connor sansby As a freelancer, I'm constantly in interviews with clients and I always hate answering this question in interviews. I dread I'll embark on some mumbling, stuttering journey of my life without addressing what they're really after. It always puts me on the spot, no matter how much I prepare.Peggy has clearly put a lot of thought into this, coaching on how to prepare for what I believe to be the most challenging part of an interview. She doesn't talk down to you, but neither does she get overly complex about the issue, perfect for when I'm already stressing about the interview.Overall, a nice quick read, written by someone who obviously knows what they're talking about. I'm actually looking forward to my next interview.

There are only screen snaps of the O365 portal and links below each to Microsoft TechNet articles explaining them.--- UPDATE: Removed editorializing regarding the writer's intentions. Apparently there are two versions, the later one containing content as described in the author's summary. As of today, June 27, 2015, a refresh (archive then download again) did not bring me the intended content. In fact, given the author's explanation below, it would seem I keep getting a pre-publication copy where his original chapter intentions, instead of the actual Powershell commands, have links to TechNet articles where perhaps he was going to expand and focus his content. In any event, if I ever do get the content advertised, I will update this review again and reassess the rating, too.

The selected commands are wide ranging and provide a full palate of common administrative needs. The work is perfect for administrators who, like me, understand that knowing where to find the exact answer for specific tasks is often more important and efficient than attempting to keep all of those Cmdlets memorized. The reference guide frees up brain space for the larger picture.

About the Author Colin Rath is a successful entrepreneur, Manhattan real estate developer, and author. He grew up in Connecticut and started his first business--a house painting and refurbishing company--while still in college. After graduation, he took over the reins at Better Lists, Inc, a busy direct mail and fulfillment company, and his leadership propelled the firm into a multi-million dollar business. In 1998 he changed careers and obtained a Series 7 license. He bought a seat on the Chicago MidAm trading floor and traded with his own money. Eight years later he decided to branch out into Manhattan real estate development. He bought his first project for $700,000 and sold it nine years later for a whopping $7,000,000.Pamela Harvey-Rath is a marketing, fashion, and merchandising professional. Originally from Kentucky, she was one of the first "Jordache girls" in the 1980s. Thanks to her excellent marketing instincts and keen eye and ear for public taste and trend, she has been called upon to do product development for top fashion companies.Together the Rath's possess a combined experience and knowledge of development projects, the banking and construction industries, marketing, public relations, Manhattan experience and insights, along with a willingness to take risks and an unusual level of commitment and self-motivation. A spoiled kid born with silver spoon ranting everything and blame everyone else but himself on the failures By jay """Spoiler alert"""The author really hasn't learnt the lessons yet according to his book. He thought His only mistake was working with the wrong people/ trusting the wrong service provider while in reality, the bigger problem or the root of everything is they want way more than they can possibly produce. Their greed or needs are way over what they were capable of producing back in time which results in too high of a leverage, lots of complacency from an one-off success- their first condo project and once the world turns, he blames everything outside. From the description of his family and siblings, it is not hard to see that he is the spoiled kid of the family to whom the parents would give everything he wants , many times without even informing the other children in the family. The contradiction of his family value being love and helping each other, taught by his mother, versus his quick accusation of the siblings skipped that memo (of love and helping each other) , and the fact that he only talks to siblings 3 or 4 times a year tells you that he was the one always receiving love and extra care from the parents and he was living in a protected world shielded by his parents. Look, he gambled money on CBOT then now real estate development, and his full time job was with family business, not a testimony from real world competition from real job market. All this tells you he has lots of desire but little ability to get things done.In the end, when he got a hard lesson from real world problems, what was the reaction ? Blaming others. Blaming the market. Even blaming his siblings who correctly pointed out that he is not entitled to his lavish lifestyle or he is not entitled to waste family money for his own desire. And he thinks those criticisms are not fair, are you kidding me.Only value of this book is to remind everyone to make sure managing your risks in development projects, and don't leverage too much.

The story Colin Rath outlined in his memoir really was a real estate horror story: just about every single thing that can be imagined going wrong with a major development project did. My personal favorite "horror" moment was where it turned out that the steel connecting the the building to it's foundation just wasn't there!Going in, I didn't think that a real estate story could be harrowing, but I was wrong! I'd recommend It Is What It Is to memoir AND horror readers: there's nothing supernatural in the story, but apparently real life real estate development can be pretty terrifying!

Entertaining Narrative and Useful Insight By carlosrlu There is a great mix of entertaining narrative and useful insight in Colin Rath’s “It Is What It Is.” The story is both compelling and sheds light on just New York City’s real estate scene, but real estate as a whole! This book is a definite must-read for those looking for a book on New York City real estate, or really, a good story in general.

A truly frighting read for you here the victems words of "let me die" or "help, shark." Just to let you know the book is not a novel but newspaper summeries. Still its a great read on the terror of shark attack victems.

By M J Heilbron Jr. I didn't like this as much as I thought I was going to, but as a baseball fan, there was no way I could skip this book.I mean..come on... PEDRO wrote a book? This I GOTTA check out, right? One of the greatest pitchers ever? I'm IN!As I barreled through this account of his life, a few things kept popping up, bothering me a bit.1) I enjoy seeing Pedro on MLB Network, and I find his baseball insights tremendously informative. He's quick, funny...but I didn't see that guy here in this book.As I read paragraph after paragraph, I could 'hear' in my head the words coming out in his thick accent. But the writing in the book seems as if it had been tidied up a bit too much by his co-writer. A first person account often comes across as the author telling you his story, but the language/syntax/whatever struck me as inauthentic. And when another player chimes in, weighing in on one of Pedro's victories, or an executive discusses a particular Pedro eccentricity, the tone shifts to a more conventional biography for a moment...it's a little jarring.I would have liked either a more "Pedro"-like storytelling, or conversely a more measured, descriptive biographical account.2) MAN does he have an excuse for everything...he sounds like my 12-year-old after a bad Little League game...3) MAN is he an angry guy! It is true that by the end of the book, he seems to have attained some sort of peace, but he is one vindictive little guy. At one point, he makes a comment that he's going to eventually "get back" at another pitcher by hitting him with a pitch, even if it's in an "Old-Timer's Game." And he is defiantly proud saying that.4) His staggering greatness...he had a year or two that are among the best single seasons EVER for a pitcher...we're talking Koufax or Gibson...is actually diminished by his chest-thumping swagger. That swagger that made him so compelling on the field doesn't come across on the page so well.I found myself wanting to read other books...maybe "Faithful" or "Now I Can Die In Peace"...to get a better sense of Pedro's greatness, of his utter dominance of the league when he was at the top of his own game...(which actually preceded the Red Sox's eventual Series success, but I imagine it would at least be referred to in those books...).This Hall of Famer deserves a better book, but he gets to tell his own story the way he wants to tell it...and for that, it's totally worth a read...

Pedro Provides A Mixture of High-Hard Ones, Change-Ups, and Curves in This Biography By Bill Emblom Pedro Martinez gives us a no-holds barred review of his life-to-date both as a major league baseball pitcher in addition to his private life as well. Sometimes a trade can be a blessing in disguise as Martinez was dealt away from the team he shared with his brother, the Los Angeles Dodgers, to the Montreal Expos where he surprisingly found a more hospitable environment. A subsequent trade to the Boston Red Sox led to the most productive years of his career where he initially expected to stay for only one year.The book contains interesting details following the 2004 season with teams such as the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets romancing Martinez to sign with their team. His father's terminal illness along with surgery on his pitching shoulder led to rather unproductive years with the Mets. One part in particular that I found to be somewhat tiring was the description of the art and craft of pitching to various hitters. There was a bit more than I cared to read about.I found a couple of errors regarding the names of players as well. The name of a particular coach is Joey Amalfitano and not Joey Malfitano. The other was the name listed as Billy Gardner who was the last batter Pedro Martinez pitched to while a member of the Phillies. The correct name should be Brett Gardner of the Yankees.Martinez had the reputation of being a head-hunter while on the mound but he explains each of the memorable situations along with the incident in which Yankees' coach Don Zimmer charged and tripped while Martinez moved to avoid him. Zimmer later apologized for this embarrassment.The book contains numerous photos and we find there is more to learn about the man who believed the inside of home plate belonged to him. Like many of us he had to struggle to become a success and there were those he remembered who helped him along the way in addition to those who proved to be otherwise. I enjoyed the book and it will find a permanent place in my baseball library.
