The Ultimate for Arm-chair Explorers By applewood An excellent production overall, with an abundance of detailed and meticulously compiled maps (49 mostly double-page maps in all) covering the history of the Tibetan plateau from 30,000 BCE to present, as well as a nice collection of photographs (both historic and recent - of Tibetan peoples, landscapes, architecture and art), with helpful and detailed explanatory essays throughout (great historic reference).This will be a delight for lovers of Tibetan culture and history, and/or history and maps in general. Just about every place and aspect of Tibetan culture is covered (apparently whatever was available to document in the historic record - with emphasis on imperial and then theocratic politics and influence, but also including things like languages, trade patterns and natural resources). The only thing lacking that I can see is the traditionally conceived map of this world according to Buddhist cosmology.

Like traffic signals and signs designed to control drivers, punctuation controls the narrative. The rules of punctuation exist for common understanding.”This book has everything you need to know about punctuation--by fiction writers for fiction writers. It is laid out clearly and logically. Easy to reference whatever you are looking for. And laced liberally with writing tips:[TIP] One of the best ways to avoid sentence structure problems is to read aloud what you’ve written. Better, have someone read it to you. Listen for repeated sentence patterns, stiff wording, places where the reader stumbles. Then revise accordingly. In a world full of people that refuse to use Oxford Commas (Who wants to live in that kind of a world?) Rick Taubold was able to make finding proper usage easy. Thank you for not making me read 1,000+ pages to find out how to use some obscure form of punctuation.

Read it through once, but it'll have you coming back to check on topics again and again. I wish there was more examples and a bigger section on how extremely correct grammatical sentences in fiction will read stiff and choppy.Overall though, a wonderful skill book to have on hand.

By Nicole Xifaras There is a lot of information out there on life coaching, and as a business owner and now a full-time Life Coach, the best decision I made regarding my career was to utilize Mitch and David's methods. I spent a year researching trainers and techniques and found Mitch and David's concepts to be the best. They cover the what and why of being a life coach, and importantly for me, they give you the practical steps that will help you turn it into a reality. Not only is their material great, Mitch and David are genuine. They more than delivered what they promised. Thanks to their teaching, I have successfully transitioned from a business that I was good at but didn't fulfill me to one that I spent years dreaming about and absolutely love. So if I can save you some time, these guys are the real deal and their book will motivate and give you the answers you need.

It's practical and you can take what you've read and apply it immediately. The stories are insightful, the activities are based on real life and already tested and the ideas will fire you up.And if you're on the fence about whether or not this is the right career shift for you or just getting started-- the questions and exploration should help clarify things for you.I'd highly recommend this book if it costs $19.99 but for 99 cents -- it's a steal!

I trained through Mitch and David and continue to learn through the Mastermind group, podcasts and ongoing web posts. I love that Mitch and David created a book that encapsulated the Elite Life Coach training process. Beyond the contents of the book itself there is more to learn from their online tools and videos. Thanks for openly sharing tips and tricks, personal experiences with coaching real clients to achieve real goals (Dreams), and your willingness "out yourselves" about what worked well (and what didn't) as you were learning and growing your practices.

About the Author

Luis Augusto Weir

Luis Augusto Weir is an Oracle Ace director and a principal architect for HCL technologies. In addition, he currently leads the global OFM and Oracle PaaS solutions offerings in the Modern Apps and Integration Practice (MAPI) at HCL. With several years of experience implementing IT solutions across the globe, he has successfully delivered several large and complex Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and API solutions for Fortune 500 companies. He has led SOA and other middleware capabilities for different renowned SIs, such as CSC, Cognizant, and Capgemini. He is currently focusing on creating digital solutions and strategies to key global HCL customers and helps them adopt and realize the full benefits that technologies, such as APIs, mobile frameworks, cloud integration platforms, and IoT, can bring to the business. Having had a natural talent for software, computers, and engineering in general, Luis' career in software started from an early age. Even before starting university, Luis's entrepreneurial spirit led him to start several ventures, including the very first social media website in his country of origin (Venezuela) as well as a small software development firm. Although none of these ventures turned into a multimillion corporation, the experience and knowledge gained during this period led him to develop the passion for distributed software computing, which inevitably led to SOA. Luis is very passionate about technology. He is a published author, a blogger, and also a regular speaker in major conferences and events. Being a well-known industry expert, especially when it comes to Oracle middleware technologies, he is an Oracle Technology Network (OTN)-certified SOA black belt.

Andrew Bell

Andrew Bell works at CSC where he is the Lead SOA/BPM solution architect for the Oracle Global Practice. He has more than 28 years experience in the IT industry covering a wide range of software products and industry verticals. Andrew has more than 23 years experience working with Oracle products and toolsets, including 10 years working with Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle BPM. He first started working in the SOA space 12 years ago and has successfully delivered many challenging and complex Oracle Middleware projects for large blue chip clients. Andrew is well respected for his depth of knowledge in the areas of SOA and BPM. He has strong team lead and communication skills and a deep all-round technical knowledge, which covers both the Oracle stack and Java.

Rolando Carrasco

Rolando Carrasco is a Fusion Middleware director for S&P Solutions, a consulting firm focused in Oracle Fusion Middleware. Rolando has been working with Oracle Middleware for more than 13 years. Since the old days of Oracle AS, Oracle Interconnect, he's been working with Oracle Integration Products. Rolando is an Oracle ACE and also one of the leaders/coordinators of the Oracle Users Group―ORAMEX―in Mexico. Rolando has been implementing SOA with major companies of the telecom, finance, manufacturing, and retail industry for a long time. He has also been guiding them in governing their SOA implementation. Rolando has strong presentation skills that have helped him to present at different forums throughout Latin America. He's been a constant speaker at the Oracle Technology Tour Latin America. His blog is one of the most read in the Spanish-speaking community (http://oracleradio.blogspot.in/). He is a constant contributor in the OTN in Spanish section of Oracle.com. Together with Arturo Viveros, he is a creator of the SOA myth busters' blogs (https://soamythbusters.wordpress.com/). Rolando worked for Oracle from 2002 to 2010. From 2005 to 2010, he worked for Oracle Corporation as a part of the outbound product management team for Fusion Middleware. Arturo Viveros is an outstanding professional currently based in Mexico City with 11 years of experience in the development, design, architecture, management, and delivery of IT projects for a variety of industries, including banking, financial, telecom, insurance, government, construction, manufacture, healthcare, and retail. I liked it because it firstly provided enough context and educational information on what an API and API management actually is. It also explained it's relation to SOA. It then provided a really good case study with plenty of examples. It then went on to show using real samples how and why to implement the different products of the suite.

How I wish that I had this book when I was studying the Constitution as a student. I have many other books on the Constitution but this one is the best. It is highly recommended for the general reader who desires to know more about the formation and content of our American Constitution.

13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. this fine piece of work makes one realize anew By John Mccarthy This books has two parts.Part I delineates the story of the creation, formation, and development of the Constitution, and it does so in an engaging and illuminating way, highlighting its its revolutionary distinctiveness. To me, the most interesting section of Part I is Paulsen's delineation as to how the 'Bill of Rights' became integral to the Constitution.Part II is the history of its how the Supreme Court, decision after decision, and decade after decade has interpreted, reinterpreted, and to no small measure has extrapolated its own policy preferences into the fabric of Constitutional law. In this part of the book, which is by far the most interesting part, Paulsen shows his colors as a strict (as opposed to a 'broad') constitutional lawyer, mincing no words as to when, where and how various Supreme Court justices have - in disregard of the clear meaning of the text itself - have created their own version of the Constitution via a methodology known as 'substantive due process' through which they interpret the constitution in terms of their own policy preferences. In so doing, says Paulsen, with which I agree, they, in effect, take off their judicial robes, and become legislators from their benches on the court. Paulsen sees this as a subversion of the original intent of the Founder's tripartite division of labor between the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary components of the U.S. Government.Bottom-line, this fine piece of work makes one realize anew, not only how precious our original constitution is, but also, how precarious it is. Yes, it has stood the test of time, now for almost 250 years, but the three branches of our government are dynamic living organisms that can be, and often have been, contorted and subverted by parties in all three branches of government. Nonetheless, the mere fact that our nation and our Constitution has survived is testament and tribute both to the brilliance of the Founders and and to the loyalty and wisdom of countless government leaders.In a sense, this is a demythologizing piece of work, which is a wonderful corrective for many of us, who have tended to view the the history of the Supreme Court as far more linearly uplifting than it has actually been.Bravo to the Paulsen's, both father and son, who wrote this fine book.

By Ron The framers developed a radical new structure for government then left it to succeeding generations to make it work. This book documents some of the key issues that led to our current view of the constitution. The authors are able to explain the history and cultural environment in a way that is both informative and entertaining. If you want a deeper understanding of the constitution and its evolution this is the book to read.

Excerpt from The Theory and Practice of BrewingThe difference that appears in the several processes of brewing, though executed with the same materials, by the same persons, and to the same intent, is generally acknowledged. The uneasiness this must occasion to these, who are charged with the directive part of the business, cannot be small: and, the more desirous they are of well executing the charge incumbent on them, the greater is their disappointment, when frustrated in their hopes. To remove this uncertainty, no method seems preferable to that of experiment, as it is that alone, which can establish this, and any other art, upon a solid foundation. But those, who have the courage, and grudge neither time nor expence, to multiply and to vary their trials, too often acquire the name of idle refiners, and, what is worse, too frequently deserve it. The operations of nature elude superficial enquiries. Where we have few or no principles for our guides, many experiments are made, which tend only to confound or deceive. Nyquist While the book itself is absolutely fascinating ( And has been referred to by the likes of Thomas Jefferson), it is in the public domain; the text in its entirety is freely available online. Just do a Google search for the title. As such, I am at a loss as to why it is being sold, and at such a high price to boot. I can see the appeal of a hard copy of a book like this; but if going for the eBook version, I'd recommend going with something that is free. like the project Gutenberg rendition.

What this book provides is brewing history that does not know it is history. By that I mean that the author is writing from the point of view of a serious practitioner of his craft communicating to a contemporary audience. This is much more useful than filtered and packaged history from a modern point of view.The reader is given a very precise description of the methods of brewing that were considered the most advanced at the time of publication (1804).From the start of the preface when the author speaks of how useful the new invention of the theromometer is, the reader is made aware that they are entering a different world. They enter a world where the understanding of biology and chemistry are radically different from that of the current world (ex: fire was believed to flow through pores in the kettle and infuse the water to make it boil). The astute reader will gain an appreciation of the limitations brewers of the time faced and a greater understanding of how and why brewing processes evolved toward today's techniques. Plus, more than a few ideas for experimentation.The language is a bit different from today's English so the reader will be faced with many archaic terms and spellings. Fortunately, the first chapter is a glossary. After that, head for the OED.To sum up: This is great history and food for experimentation for the adventurous brewer.

Clear descriptions of knots and their uses By G Although not an expansive collection of every knot in the world, this book contains a library of many useful knots for nearly every fishing application. It's descriptions of the knots are clear and illustrated quite nicely. It certainly contains more knots than I would ever use in my lifetime.If you're looking for every obscure knot in the universe, look elsewhere. If you want a simple description of knots with clear illustrations, then you've found a winner with this book. It's one that I will refer back to for many years.

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Good info bad black on black pictures By BKX In knot tying I would definitely say that a picture is worth 1,00 words. The pictures are horrible. They are in black and white which wouldn't be that bad, but they decided to use a black background along with black rope to show you how to tie a lot of the knots. You can't distinguish between the rope and the background half the time. I would not suggest wasting your money on this. You are better off googling the knots and learning them at home. They have way better animated videos on how to tie which ever knot you are looking for online.

BUT - I don't agree to be "complete" book for knots and information. Nice pictures, but again lack of knot varities or quantities. Some knots are complicated and don't show detail information or enough steps to finish the knot. They are missing some very good and important knots. Again - it's a good "not so comlete" book.

By Dappledreams I first came across Cyndi Smasal when I read her book 'Hope for Healing Liver Disease' soon after one of my dogs was diagnosed with liver disease. That was 10 years ago and my dog is still with me. One of the problems with liver disease is that a dog will often be inappetant and so, when I heard that Cyndi had written a book on that very topic I just had to buy it.Cyndi writes for the ordinary person on t he street, no jargon, just plain, simple language that we can all understand. It gives very sensible advice on how to entice your dog to eat, when it might be advisable to go to the vet, just in case there is a medical reason for him/her not wanting to eat. And the solutions are not expensive, just ordinary everyday things we will usually have in our cupboards.I can't recommend this book highly enough.

It has really helped me when it came to finding a diet that my pickier eater could and would eat. Ever since he was diagnosed with liver disease I have been extremely careful about what I have fed him and these recipes were easier, cheaper, and just as healthy as the ones given to me by his specialist.

There are plenty of diets, supplements and conditions listed. It's a book to have on hand in your 'medicine cabinet' even if you aren't experiencing the problem right now. A must have for dog owners. Another great one by Cyndi Smasal!
