2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Delightful! By J.Prather Do Your Ears Hang Low? is a delight and a must have for any baby or toddler's book collection! The illustrations are whimsical and charming, depicting a family of bunnies pondering their ears and all the wonderful things they can do. The first verse is the only one that follows the classic song, but the other two verses in the book are very well written and funny. The read aloud, sing aloud flow is spot on, making this a joy to read (sing) aloud. I had the pleasure of using this in a baby story time this week and was delighted with the response. To look out and see a group of babies smiling and bouncing on their mom's laps as we enjoyed this book together was simply tremendous. It also reminded me of the importance of rhyming and singing in infant development. This book is an excellent tool for parents to use to make sure their youngsters are rhyming and singing at an early age, and it's a gift for any story time leader looking for a baby story time staple. This is a must have.I will also note that this book is very well constructed with board pages, and the illustrations feature bold lines and bright colors. Simply perfect for the youngest readers.

I'm a little over 100 pages in and thought I would leave my thoughts and findings so far. The full online version of the book and resources are included for free! Sixteen video animations, multiple choice questions on each unit of the book, and 25 enhanced images where you can quickly hide the labels, quiz yourself, and then click to see the correct label are all part of the online version resources. There are no quizzes or questions at the end of each unit in the physical print edition (I think the Guyton and Hall Physiology Review 3e is geared toward this aspect). The general layout of the textbook is two columns of text per page with many figures and tables interwoven. The font of the text is clear and easy to read. The text guides you through the figures and explains them well as it is teaching the subject making for a far better learning experience than others where they just have a description underneath the figure (in this textbook there is also a very brief description under the figure but mainly is described in the main part as you are reading). There are mini bibliographies at the end of each unit allowing you to know where you might start to further dive into that topic and read some of the current research papers. Modern research and findings have been seamlessly incorporated. It contains a lot of information so it is difficult to read everything during the ridiculously paced medical school curriculum. However, if you really want to understand the concepts and not just memorize facts, this book is the one to use. Costanzo is ok. But I frequently found myself reading Costanzo to try to save time, but in the end I had to come back to Guyton because it did a better job of explaining the details.

    5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Become the gospel! By J P Romack I have read with appreciation some of Gorman's previous work on Paul. He writes clearly and well. You know where he stands. This book is described as an effort in the budding field of "missional hermeneutics." Basically the author is saying that Paul is concerned that the churches with whom he is involved should be living as God's people for God's purposes in the world, that is, as followers of Jesus who is the Christ, missional people. Gorman explains in detail how what Paul writes to the churches is encouragement, correction and instruction on how one participates in Christ and in so doing becomes the gospel (good news) for the world. This is a good book especially for those who might read Paul without a thought of mission in their minds. It seems amazing to me that it's taken this long for NT scholars to get to a "missional hermeneutic." I suppose it's a forest and trees kind of thing. What other gorillas are walking around in scripture, invisible to us, because of our perceptual blindness? I'd like to give this book 4.5 stars. Wish the star rating system were not so blunt a tool.

He artfully presents a topic to all three reader types. I have recommended this book to all United Methodist of the Baltimore-Washington Conference

Unfortunately,most of them are meant for advanced players who are able to memorizehundreds of complicated variations.Now however, J.E.F. Kaan, a Dutch scientist, has produced a 'repertoirebook', suitable for beginners and aspiring club players. The lines arerelatively easy to remember, and make sure the reader can face theopening with confidence.A big advantage of the openings given in the book, is that they will rermainplayable for a long time. They have been analyzed in depth and checkedby computer analysis. It is a pleasant surprise to discover how comprehensively easy it is to read this book in plain simple English By KrissyG J.E.F Kaan is a Masters degree physicist and MBA and lives in the Netherlands. He obviously has a very logical and mathematical brain. Thus it is a pleasant surprise to discover how comprehensively easy it is to read this book in plain simple English. It is geared towards beginners and those at intermediate (club) level looking to strengthen their game. There is a taster of advanced strategy, all laid out in an easy to follow format.This wonderful book deserves to have a wider audience and I cannot recommend it highly enough.I would recommend reading it in small chunks at a time, as you need to concentrate to follow the moves and the logic, and this takes pleasurable effort, despite the clean simplicity of the text.I have played chess for many years, although only for leisure. I have never read a chess book before. My knowledge of chess comes from playing the game with all levels of opponent, some of whom were trained to a high level and knew the advice of having a strong opening move and the importance of controlling the centre of the board. My two uncles, sadly now deceased, were both chess masters, winning many chess trophies and tournaments in Finland and for Finland, together with a clock, and often playing in the communist block where chess is strong, and I soon noticed they would always make the same opening move, with an occasional “crazy” move as a surprise tactic.Kaan has certainly encouraged me to resume the beautiful game and he recommends using a computer chess program to practice the recommended moves.Chess is a spatial game and it helps to have good spatial intelligence. Kaan nonetheless helps the reader with a three-dimensional chess board early on in the book to aid the reader’s visualisation of the chess board and the square letters and numbers. There are black and white photos of various grandmasters, all of which are aspirational. The colour version shows the chessboard in a pleasing brown and yellow rather than stark black and white.Chapter One deals with the purpose of the book. Chapter Two the Opening Phase and why a good opening is essential to winning a game.Chapter Three is aimed at Beginners’ Openings, which can be skipped by those who want to go straight to intermediate.The introductions over, and familiarity with chess notation absorbed, Chapter Three continues with a complete tool kit of Opening Repertoires. Kaan explains why this is important and demonstrates what can go wrong by illustrating typical Patzer (=beginner) moves that lead to disaster by their rashness. Included in this are the Grob, or the Scholar’s Mate. All terms are explained. Kaan takes us through the (for example) Black Italian opening, or the Blackburne Shilling gambit, to name just a few.Kaan leads us through openings to avoid (as a relative beginner) such as the Giuoco Piano – white moving the bishop to C4, actually a start for sharp attack for the more skilled – the Scotch, the Panziani, Viena King’s Gambit, Bishop’s Opening, Centre Games, Alapins, Two Knights, etc, etc. He runs through opening defense moves for Black, explaining the possible pitfallsChapter Four deals with the Intermediate Repertoire, for example, the Deferred Schliemann, or the Modern Steinitz Defence. This leads on to the key Ruy Lopez variations, to name but one.Chapter Five progresses into Gambit Repertoire. These tactical plans include Gosing, Scotch , Sicilian, Gruenfeld and King’s Indian, amongst several others.Chapter Six deals with Positional Repertoire: – strategy. Amongst these are the Dutch, Austrian and Leningrad attacks.Then follows an Appendix of 34 pages that provides some notes, a glossary of terms, an Index of Variations in tabular form and comprehensive index of the contents of the book.I have no hesitation in endorsing this book.

Sound comprehensive repertoire for the beginner through intermediate player By RLBell Provides a complete opening repertoire, for both White and Black, targeted to the beginner-intermediate player. For White, repertoires based on 1.e4 (featuring the Ruy Lopez) and also on 1.d4 are offered (you have a choice!). For Black, against 1.e4 the repertoire recommends 1...e5 for beginners and 1...e6 (French Defense) for intermediate players. For Black against 1.d4, 1...Nf6 (Queen's Gambit and Indian Defenses) is featured, with recommendations for lines against 1.c4 and 1.Nf3 as well. Also included is a gambit repertoire for White beginning with 1.e4, for those who are interested in gambit play as White. Overall, a comprehensive and sound opening repertoire is provided. All recommended lines have been checked by computer. The Kindle version of this book has the title "Learning The Chess Openings" by the same author.

By Texasbee I've been taking an on-line course in Dutch that kind of immerses you in the language without much in the way of formal grammar instruction. This book really helps to fill in the gaps and does it with a friendly, conversational tone. The phonetic pronunciation of Dutch words is very helpful. It clarifies what I'm hearing in the on-line course, because that can sometimes sound a bit robotic. Very happy with this book. Dank je wel!

By RED BEE I am so curious about Dutch language.I already checked the vocabularies through online but what I learn is not enough so I decided to purchase a book that I can carry with me anywhere and even without using the internet.So I grab this book and I am glad I have it. I wanted a simple reference guide, and this is perfect. It has everything you need when you're learning Dutch, or when simply refreshing your knowledge of it. It's different from other reference books, because it doesn't just give you the information, nor does it give you complicated explanations. It's very easy to understand, and I guess that's why non-native of English speakers enjoy it also. To top all of that off, it's at a very good price. I fully recommend it.

Very disappointed, definitely not worth buying new By Brian Graves Many of the examples and problems require access to the "data files" to follow along or complete. This book does NOT stand alone for instructional and learning purposes without those files. I purchased a NEW copy which did not come with access to the files. My instructor is not using the connect feature, for whatever reason, so I can't even buy access to the data on my own. Very disappointed, definitely not worth buying new.

I used this very same book back then for my studies, and this book contains about 35-40% more information. The book is easy to read and well laid out. The online resources that come with the book alone are worth the money. You can retake the chapter tests & practice tests online repeatedly. The online flash cards help immensely too. The book is downloadable in PDF & ebook formats for reading offline. The virtual lab simulator offered is somewhat anemic and I found little use for it.I scheduled myself to do a chapter a day, there are 20 chapters, but I got stuck in two chapters for 2-3 days each, and remember I'm already NET+ certified! It's like everything else, if you don't use it you lose it, and some material learned you just don't use. You forget it! Long story short, it took me four weeks, 28 days, to read the book, study, and do all the tests.I would recommend this book to anyone seeking to become NET+ certified. Use it and at least one other book to get a different prospective of the same material.

I read the A+ textbook from the same author so, at this point, I am use his writing format and question style so I decided to get the N+ from the same author. So far so good and I am only reading the PDF version. The textbook itself is the size of a mini modern dictionary so that's just too bulky for me to carry around. When the time gets near to take the exam, I'm sure I'll utilize all the practice exams, flash cards, etc

It has some good ideas and source recommendations as far as experimenting on the web via text editors. The book covers best practices and has online exercises to check out. This book will be on the top shelf in the laboratory for many years to come.

Very helpful By Linguist2be My only gripe with this book is that words listed in the index are referenced to the numbered 'category' they're grouped into rather than the actual page they can be found on. Otherwise, it's a very good book with a lot of helpful vocabulary relevant to Egyptian Arabic (as compared to other books that claim to give Egyptian Arabic vocabulary but really don't).

Marsh I like that this contains a ring and all cards are hole punched in the upper left allowing you to add and remove cards as needed and take them easily on the go. They are comprehensive and helpful in studying origins, insertions and actions, though I was disappointed that facial muscles and the skull were limited. Also includes clinically relevant items and x-ray/MRI samples.

Could use some work By DK I used to just make cards on my own by scanning Netter's images from the main atlas I bought and just printing them on note cards. I picked up this product because I wanted to save myself the trouble of making a whole set.The cards are of Netter's plates, but they lack a significant amount of detail compared to the plates in the Atlas of Anatomy. The bones are missing a huge number of landmarks and the muscle information on the back is the bare basics. If you're in a graduate program, these cards are not acceptable on their own. The pathologies were a nice touch, but again, if you're in a graduate program, the amount of detail given is so bare that it just comes off as trivial instead of informative.The cards are beautiful and a good start, much better in quality than anything I could make myself. I actually think they're great now that I've went through and penned in all the landmarks missing from the actual plates, but I'm writing the review based on how they were out of the box. I made them as similar in detail to the main plates as possible, and now they're great for on the go study.In conclusion, they're worth buying and just writing the missing things on the cards yourself. Out of the box they're only suited for undergraduate level anatomy classes.

They are easy to use though. Some of the conditions and x-ray or mri images are to much. I just bought it for the basic anatomy, which is well provided.

Griffin This is an idiosyncratic book, which is priced so highly that it will probably be purchased almost exclusively by libraries. But it has many interesting and important features.Fred Hoyle is well known among people who are conversant with astronomy and astrophysics. But few except specialists know just how significant his work has been. For example, the 1957 article known to scientists as “B2FH,” which Burbidge, Burbidge, and Fowler wrote with Hoyle, “unified our understanding of nuclear fusion in stars with the element production visible throughout the universe,” according to Neil de Grasse Tyson and Donald Goldsmith.This book by Theo Walker and Chandra Wickramasinghe, the bibliography for which appears to have everything written by Hoyle (the references fill 8 pages), knows so much about Hoyle partly because Wickramasinghe, after studying with Hoyle, then co-authored many books and articles with him.Also, although Hoyle began as an outspoken atheist, he later, working on fine-tuning, developed a type of theism, in which he considered the entire universe as intelligent. I had assumed that everyone knowing something about such matters knew this. And yet incredibly, Walker and Wickramasinghe reported that this was not true of Helge Kragh’s book, “Cosmology and Controversy” (1996), considered the definitive study of the two basic cosmological theories (the “absolute beginning” type and the “no absolute beginning” type). Kragh’s book falsely said: “When Hoyle was in his early teens he concluded that religious ideas were just fairy tales with no foundation in reality, and he never changed this simplistic atheistic view.”One of the ideas to which Hoyle and Wickramasinghe devoted much time was the thesis that microbial life, rather than having developed (about 4 billion years ago) from a “primordial soup,” came from outer space (cometary panspermia). At one time, this theory was almost universally reviled. But in his book 2001 book, “Life Everywhere: The Maverick Science of Astrobiology,” David Darling said: “Today, panspermia is at least tolerated in polite company. . . . No longer does the mere mention of the word jeopardize a promising career or invite ridicule by one’s scientific peers.”In defending this view, Wickramasinghe wrote: “It is a feature of a good theory to be able to make predictions that can be verified or tested. Since 1981, a flood of new data has continued to match the predictions of the theory of cometary panspermia. This has been true for discoveries from many different disciplines - microbiology, geology, and astronomy. An incorrect theory would not be expected to have had such an uninterrupted record of successes.”With regard to this book’s title, “The Big Bang and God”: The book has remarkably little about the so-called “big bang.” This may be because Hoyle, who coined this term sarcastically, preferred instead a steady-state theory (which he later modified into a quasi-steady-state theory).But the book has a lot about God. The authors argue against the traditional idea of an omnipotent deity – they cite Charles Hartshorne’s book “Omnipotence and Other Theological Mistakes.” But they do suggest that recent cosmology is fully consistent with the type of theism (pan-en-theism) developed by Hartshorne and his forerunner, Alfred North Whitehead.My greatest disappointment with this book is its terribly brief discussion of its reason for affirming a single universe (at a time), not a multiverse. But all in all, this is a valuable book in many ways, with an enormous amount of information – such as the history of the term Astro-Theology, which goes back to 1715.

    0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. ... of “natural theology” in the spirit of process theologians like Alfred Whitehead and Charles Hartshorne with scientific idea By Norman Girardot This work interestingly and copiously lays out current postmodernist thinking about the relation of “natural theology” in the spirit of process theologians like Alfred Whitehead and Charles Hartshorne with scientific ideas about cosmic origins and the astro-biological genesis of organic life as seen especially in the work of the “big bang” and “panspermia” theories of Sir Fred Hoyle. The work itself is not so much a single developed argument but an up-to-date compendium and primer on these fascinating issues with an intelligent running commentary, an appendix of critical reviews of key theorists, and a copious bibliography. The authors (the astronomer and collaborating colleague of Hoyle, Chandra Wickramasinghe, and the process theologian Theodore Walker) not only significantly complement each other with respect to their different disciplinary expertise, but also show that recent developments suggestively point toward a significant postmodern convergence of certain aspects of natural theology and cosmological/astro-biological science – as well as, I should add, various other scientific and humanistic disciplines not the least of which are the arts. What is exciting about this work is how it shows that attempts to denigrate theology (in this case a sophisticated process form of natural theology) in the name of a triumphant atheistic science is not as certain as some contemporary apostles of neo-atheism would maintain. Indeed for some it will be a revelation that Hoyle was not so atheistically one-sided in his latter-day views about a cosmos that displays “fine tuning.” Needless to say, these are perplexed issues fraught with different, and often warring, cultural and emotional perspectives on both “science” and “theology/religion/god.” This book does not pretend to come to any final resolution, but it does make a case for a “constructive advance” in understanding these matters. Recommended for any reader curious about the viability of theism in our postmodern scientific but post-secular world.
