Do you ever feel like you can't control your emotions and let them take over your life? Are you sick of feeling anxious pain in your own skin and letting your insecurities hold you back from enjoying life?

For the last 15 years of my life, I have been searching for the best advice and tips that can significantly change a person from feeling insecure to completely confident. The reason I am passionate about this topic is because I used to struggle with severe anxiety and didn't know how to control my emotions.

I have social anxiety, I cannot count the amount of networking parties and other important events I have missed because the thought of being around so many persons made me afraid. One of the problems that persons with anxiety face is lack of confidence and sometimes the only way to build confidence is by self-affirmations and trying to become more social. In some cases, meditation is also helpful to curb anxiety. It is comforting to realize that the author has been through and ultimately conquered his anxiety disorders and his now sharing his strategies in this book.

By Rusty Stork I myself is insecure and anxious about going to public places, facing people and meeting people. I guess, it's all normal to us humans. What I like about this book is that it is really interactive in the sense that reading this feels like you are talking personally to the author. I liked that Jack has shared his own experiences and how he learned to overcome his social anxiety. Through sharing these, I can feel and relate with what the author has expererienced and I have been motivated in the later part on how he has done overcoming his anxieties and insecurities. This is one great book to read and I will have it recommended.

I have dealt with a lot of social anxiety and self esteem problems in my past. I am the type of person who thinks a lot. Many times I've been told that my problem is just that I think too much. This book encourages you to think, but to think more logically and more positively. It makes you aware of thought/emotion cycles that are harmful and that are not true. It walks you through changing these. Again, SO grateful for this book. I have bought several copies to give to friends who deal with the same kind of thing. I highly recommend it.

I was looking for a more technical guide (better maps, mile descriptions, etc.) but it's still worth having. Helps me brainstorm a hike if I'm in a pinch.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This is the third edition of this guide that I have bought By Mike Breeze I have used Mr Atkins guides for years to hike various trails in VA. And I was very happy when the Kindle version came out. He has updated some of the hikes to show any changes to them. And I like that you can view the maps on your smart phone via the Kindle app. My only complaint is that some of the maps are blurry when expanded and that they really should be in color by now.

Ten years after the Human Genome Project’s completion the life sciences stand in a moment of uncertainty, transition, and contestation. The postgenomic era has seen rapid shifts in research methodology, funding, scientific labor, and disciplinary structures. Postgenomics is transforming our understanding of disease and health, our environment, and the categories of race, class, and gender. At the same time, the gene retains its centrality and power in biological and popular discourse. The contributors to Postgenomics analyze these ruptures and continuities and place them in historical, social, and political context. Postgenomics, they argue, forces a rethinking of the genome itself, and opens new territory for conversations between the social sciences, humanities, and life sciences.Contributors. Postgenomics: Perspectives on Biology after the GenomeFrom Richardson, Sarah S. (EDT)/ Stevens, Hallam (EDT)

Review "Some topics are so multi-faceted that it is difficult for any single author to do it justice. 'Postgenomics' is one of those concepts that requires a collection of different perspectives to help nail down what it connotes. In this remarkable volume, each of the six variable meanings of 'post-genomic' is captured, illuminated, and placed in socio-historical context—and the editors provide an excellent overview that gives coherence to the enterprise." (Troy Duster, author of Backdoor to Eugenics)"Postgenomics is a brilliant collection of lucid and accessible essays, and a go-to volume for anyone who wants to catch up on what has been happening in contemporary biology and science studies. Illuminating changes in the concepts of gene, genetics, genomics, postgenomics, and epigenomics—and covering everything from cancer biology, affect, and big data curation practices to behavior genetics, machine-learning infrastructure, and feminist critique—Postgenomics may change the way you think." (Michael M. J. Fischer, author of Anthropological Futures)

Excerpt from Truck Farming in the EvergladesTo the city man, living on a salary, often in a dark or stuffy office, always an underling, working in a narrow groove, dependent on today's wages for tomorrow's food, the independent countryman's life must appeal, for he is a free man, master of himself, is conversant with nature in its many moods, enjoys the first fruits of the earth with the gleam still on them, and all its first impulses and pleasures. Often, as we hear country boys, on the threshold of manhood, taunted with being farmers, it makes me feel that the city boy requires training other than agricultural to teach him relative values.City people sojourning in the country for fresh air and cheaper living, looking down on the farmer as inferior, will scarcely believe that it requires more brains to run a farm properly than to sit over a ledger, nor can they fathom the many experiences that the countryman must necessarily first master before he can be classed as a successful landholder. The city, glistening with its many frivolities, has drawn young people from the country to such an alarming extent that universal comment has been aroused, much the larger percentage of our population being today engaged in other than pastoral pursuits. This in itself would not be so alarming, were it not that the vitality of our nation is being drained proportionately, for it is a well-known fact, if the country should today cease to replenish the city with new blood, the city would soon die for want of population. No wonder, then, the cry of today is, "Back to the farm and nature." And back we must and will go, for this threatening catastrophe is too appalling to be passed by unchallenged.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The American Presidency examines the constitutional origins of the executive office and the social, economic, political, and international factors that have shaped it over time. In this eighth edition, Milkis and Nelson have updated and revised each chapter to reflect current scholarship and to thoroughly explore the Obama Presidency to date. Tracing the evolution of the presidency over time, the authors touch succinctly on each administration to show how individual presidents have shaped the executive office and reveal the developmental arc of the modern presidency. By emphasizing patterns of presidential conduct, this award-winning book offers perspective and insight on the expansion of presidential power over the years.

The American Presidency: Origins and Development, 1776-2014, by MR Sidney M Milkis

Review "Weaving insightful treatments of major transformations of the presidency into a lively narrative that encompasses every chief executive, Milkis and Nelson have written an essential history of the office. Still going strong after a quarter of a century, The American Presidency has been a favorite text for generations of my students." -- Bruce Miroff "Milkis and Nelson's The American Presidency: Origins and Development, 1776-2014 is an outstanding introduction to the U.S. presidency. It is informative and crisply written. Students like it and it I find it very easy to teach from. It provides students the information they need on the history and development of the U.S. presidency in a format that is accessible without sacrificing intellectual rigor." -- David E. Lewis "The Milkis and Nelson text is an excellent example of how to ground Political Science within an historical setting and create a narrative of institutional development. It strikes a good balance between the presidency as an institution occupied by a strong singular personality and the presidency as the executive power of an entire country, growing larger as the country does as well. The chapters, while focusing on the iconic presidents, also do an effective job of framing presidential challenges within themes, such as war powers, hurdles in dealing with the bureaucracy, fighting for (or losing) authority within the political system, etc. The choice to begin with creating the constitutional president and then working through a chronological succession is beneficial for students to grasp how the institution has changed over time and just as importantly, why it has." -- Timothy Lindberg "I would not use anything else. Milkis and Nelson provide historical examples and interpretation of the important events in the history of the presidency and of how the presidency as an institution has changed over time. I don't think the book has any weaknesses. The writing is top notch. I've had only positive comments from students about the book." -- Kenneth Stevens

About the Author Sidney M. Milkis is the White Burkett Miller Professor in the Department of Politics and Faculty Associate in the Miller Center at the University of Virginia. He has written extensively on political history and American politics, with special attention to the presidency, political parties, and social movements. Mel Bay's Favorite Hymns for Classical Guitar, by Joseph Castle

About the Author Joseph Castle (1913-1992) was born in Bloomington, Illinois. His childhood was spent on a fruit farm near Mackinaw, Illinois. When he was twelve, Joseph was "discovered" by Russel Harvey, a teacher at Illinois Wesleyan University with whom he studied violin. There were very few guitar teachers at the time Mr. Castle became interested in the guitar, so he was primarily self-taught on that instrument, using the Carcassi text. His interest in both plectrum and fingerstyle guitar started in high school. He played guitar and violin in large bands in Austin, Texas as well as violin in the Austin symphony and small chamber groups.

Joseph graduated from the University of Texas in 1953 with a Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in violin and minoring in piano. From 1951 to 1953 he was concertmaster of the University Symphony Orchestra. He taught with the University of Texas String Project from 1952 to 1953. Joseph later returned to Austin, Texas, to devote his time to the classic guitar by teaching and making arrangements of solo and group guitar pieces. In 1960 his first collection of pieces for plectrum guitar ensemble was published by Mel Bay Publications, Inc. Mr. Castle edited and arranged books for clssic guitar, violin, and piano for many years for Mel Bay Publications.

In 1987, Joseph Castle was accepted into the Manuscript Archives Collection of the Fine Arts Division of the Dallas Public Lubrary. He donated the manuscript of this "Elegie for Strings" to the archives, which was one of two of his pieces performed in the Triennial Festival of Texas Composers.

In addition to his teaching and composing activities, Castle tuned pianos for many years. He was interested in the historical temparaments for tuning.

Joseph's musical activities included teaching in the string program of the public schools in Wichita Falls, Texas; professional string playing in the Castle trio and Castle String Quartet; Concertmaster, Autin Civic Orchestra; Classic guitar teacher, performer, and music editor. His "Suite in Spanish Style" for Alto Recorder or Flute and Classic Guitar was published by Loux Music in 1992. In 1991 he comleted a quartet for two recorders, viola da gamba, and classic guitar.

A Good Resource for Sacred Guitar Music By A Customer As stated in the preface, "all transcriptions were derived from the best-known versions of the hymns." This collection of hymns and songs of praise are carefully noted with fingerings and are easy enough for late beginning - to early intermediate guitarists, since since much of the musical notation is in the first position. Both traditional and contemporary pieces are included in this good selection of familiar sacred music.

Playable Church Hymns By loveguitar I was looking for some relatively non-challenging church tunes to play and hoping I could find some of those I used to hear in church when I was a kid. This thin book of 31 pages does a good job of giving me what I wanted. I didn't want to have to work too very hard to play these hymns so that I could enjoy the simplicity of them. I don't think church hymns should be complicated since they were not originally written that way.Since you can "look inside!" this book you can see the table of contents. My three favorite hymns to play on classical guitar are: "Christ the Lord is Risen Today", "Take Time to be Holy" and "Blest Be the Tie That Binds". The reason I like these the best is because of how beautiful they come across on the guitar. The last two are especially lovely since the melody and harmony flow sweetly along. But, by far the majority of the hymns are in block chords. They are still lovely, but I like musical lines that flow a bit more smoothly. However, the block chords are absolutely wonderful for sight reading practice.I've played all the songs several times in this book and I think the most challenging one to play is "O Sacred Head, Now Wounded", though it is not very difficult. It also contains, "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" but the "Jesu" in the "Christopher Parkening Guitar Method, Vol. 1" is much better and actually a bit easier to play. All the hymns are written in very good guitar notation giving left and right hand fingering suggestions. The first page of the book even includes a brief explanation of the abbreviations used for fingerings. However, if you are totally new to music notation this book will be challenging but for those who are at a late beginning to early intermediate levels should have few problems learning how to play the songs in this book. There is NO TAB. Also, there are no words to the songs, just the music only. I teach classical guitar and some of my students have expressed an interest in learning some church hymns. This book is a good place to start.

My daughter really enjoys doing these books and we do plenty of different workbooks. The sticker books are her favorite. The company makes it very easy for the parent by placing the page number on each group of stickers that go with said page. Its also very easy to tear out of the sticker pages so you have it on hand while working through the workbook. This book is great for children ages 2 to 5 years old.

They can't get enough of the activities. They are fun, the stickers and pictures and bright and attractive to a preschooler. They don't realize they are learning, since it does not feel very boring.I can't say enough in praise of School Zone. Their books are way more engaging and cost a whole deal less than the Kumon books. My 2nd grader works on grade level math books from School Zone and she loves them too.

What sold me is that by using stickers to complete the tasks, this workbook allows children to show what they know without worrying about reproducing a perfect written symbol (letter or number). My son is a perfectionist. He knows there are 4 cows but if he cannot write a 4 just like the typed numeral, he will not complete the activity. I would much rather he work on his thinking skills and worry about fine motor skills when they are age appropriate.

BEWARE the copy with intro by Comfort By Caraleisa The original book by Charles Darwin is a classic that should be on everyone's reading list. There are ample reviews here which address it, praise it, and I am completely in agreement with them. Darwin's Origin of Species is a true masterpiece.Unfortunately, this review is to help readers/buyers realize that there is a 'vandalized' version which has been published, and to tell you how to avoid it and get the real thing. To explain; there is yet another edition also called "The Origin of Species, 150th Anniversary Edition", put out by Christian Fundamentalist Ray Comfort in an attempt to discredit evolutionary theory and Charles Darwin, and it has some extra 50 pages of unintelligible drivel about creationism, as well as having ABRIDGED Darwin's original text. If you want to read about creationism, find another book... if you want the facts, read ALL of what Darwin has to say, and please don't give any money to Comfort by accidentally buying his ABRIDGED version.Note that he used the EXACT same name as the 'real' anniversary edition -- "The Origin Of Species: 150th Anniversary Edition by Charles Darwin". You can easily tell which version you're getting by who wrote the introduction - go with Julian Huxley, NOT Ray Comfort, and you'll have the correct and complete version. Also, note that Amazon reviews are mixed between the books (normally not a problem at all) - I hope they are straightening this out, but currently that's not the case. Sadly, the negative reviews of the Comfort version are bringing down the rating of the 'good/real' book.Sorry to have to write about the 'drama', but I'm sure you want to know that you have ordered the correct book, and I know you'll love it.Enjoy.

This is the sixth edition of the Origin of Species By John Salerno My four-star rating is more for this particular product than for the work of Darwin itself. Clearly Darwin's book is the cornerstone of modern biology, and I won't even pretend to try to rate its importance using one to five stars. However, I felt it was important to let people know that this is the *sixth* edition of the book. I ordered it thinking it was the first, although I admit I had no reason to believe that other than that it did not specify that it was any other edition. The main problem with later editions is that Darwin continually responded to his critics in subsequent editions, thus changing some aspects of his theory. He also added the obnoxious concession "by the Creator" to his beautiful final sentence in order to appease the religious critics. The sixth (final) edition even has an extra chapter in response to criticisms by Catholic biologist George Mivart (which chapter is present in this edition, thus proving it is the sixth edition). The benefit to later editions would be that they contain minor corrections to the writing, as well as these answers to objections and criticism, but at the same time I don't feel that Darwin's answers needed to be added to the book itself. "The Origin" should simply present his theory (as the first edition does) and he could easily have answered his critics in other ways and not by editing the actual theory itself. But to reiterate my main point, I am not reviewing the actual work of Darwin. I am posting this review to inform people of which edition they are getting with this particular book, because I wish I had known in advance.Edit: I should add that the copy I received did not have the same cover as what is displayed here. My copy shows a bird, a wildcat, and a dolphin on the cover. The cover shown on the product page at the time of writing is of a ship. However, my copy is still the 150th Anniversary Edition (Signet Classics) with an introduction by Julian Huxley.

A Sham - Half the number of pages as the legitimate version, critical content omitted By Mitch Scott I have to admit, I'm astonished by the ease with which one can be fooled into thinking they've procured the full and legitimate content of Darwin's signature work. A couple of easy clues, though:Darwin refers in this version to a diagram in chapter IV, to illustrate "The Probable Effects of the Process of Natural Selection Through Divergence of Character and Extinction, On the Descendants of a Common Ancestor." This diagram is absent in this version, and this absence is what started me on the road to identifying this version as a fraud. I began to search for other editions of "Origins" to see if they included the diagram. And that search found not only that most versions did contain the diagram, but that the full text of this work ran to over 550 pages - twice as many as are included in this version.I should also have known better than to have procured a free version. You truly do get what you pay for.Be aware, as you look for a reliable version of the work, that there are many fraudulent versions out there. I won't go into detail on this, as this review concerns this specific version. But I can say that I've purchased a version that I am satisfied is a faithful rendering of the complete content. The ISBN number is 978-0-451-52906-0. It's the 150th anniversary edition, with an introduction by Julian Huxley. Still, don't take my word for it, and do your own due diligence. There is another "150th anniversary" version with an introduction by Ray Comfort, who is a Christian prothselitizer. So be careful.Hopefully this will prevent you from having to start reading the work again from the beginning, as I've had to do. But I'm glad to have figured it out and separated fact from fiction.

It’s summer, and Tallulah is excited about going to dance camp. She’ll get to take plenty of ballet classes. She’ll have to take tap, too, and she’s NOT excited about that. She’s never taken tap before, so she’ll be a beginning beginner. And she’s right—tap class is not much fun. Plus there’s a girl her same age who’s maddeningly good at tap dancing. But that same girl isn’t very good at ballet . . . could it be that she and Tallulah have something in common?

Tallulah's Tap Shoes, by Marilyn Singer

From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 2—Tallulah's looking forward to dance camp this summer. She and her little brother will get to take ballet every day, but she also has to take tap and Tallulah's not looking forward to that. She has been taking ballet for a while, but she's never taken tap before and will be a "very beginning beginner." On the first day, she meets Kacie who isn't very good at ballet but is the best tap dancer in the class. At first Tallulah feels bad because Kacie is being praised while she is constantly being corrected during tap class, but over time the girls learn they have a lot to teach each other. Young readers will learn about the importance of being patient and open-minded when it comes to trying new things. The text is complemented with soft and expressive watercolor illustrations. VERDICT This book will appeal to young ballerinas and tap dancers.—Sarah Polace, Cuyahoga Public Library System, OH

Review "The ballerina-to-be-explores new and challenging steps—successfully."—Kirkus "The expressive text vividly captures the ups and downs of Tallulah's summer, particularly the key moment when her anger turns to interest, leading to a realistic shift in her point of view...An appealing addition to the Tallulah series."—Booklist Online "Young readers will learn about the importance of being patient and open-minded when it comes to trying new things. The text is complemented with soft and expressive watercolor illustrations."—School Library Journal

They all teach valuable lessons, and the ballerina theme lets my own little ballerina really relate and understand those lessons. In this one Tallulah goes to dance camp where she is supposed to learn ballet and tap. But she finds out she hates tap because she stinks at it. Meanwhile she meets a friend there who loves tap and hates ballet because she stinks at ballet.Together they talk about their frustrations and realize that it's okay to stink at something. They also learn that it's good to stick it out even when you hate something. In the end both girls learn that they only stink at tap / ballet because they are new to it, and that with practice they'll get a little better and start to enjoy it more. And just as importantly she makes a new friend and shares her feelings and frustrations with her.The illustrations are all water colored, with muted tons. It's very soothing visually so the Tallulah books all make great bedtime stories. I just love everything about this entire series of books.

By Candice I'm giving this three stars only because of the beautiful illustrations. We found Tallulah to be a bit bratty and pouty throughout the book. Tallulah attends dance camp, she loves ballet because she is the best in class and hates tap because she thinks she is the worst in class. There is a little girl at camp who feels the opposite about ballet and loves tap, and because the little girl doesn't show up for ballet class one day Tallulah thinks its ok to skip tap class since she doesn't like it. Within the last couple of pages the two girls become friends and realize that they can enjoy the dance classes that they don't favor even though they feel they are the worst in the class. I wish the book showed more of Tallulah giving an effort to try something new instead of being pouty and bratty towards the tap class and little girl.

Excerpt from Mineral Resources of Bland County in Southwestern VirginiaThe range of mineral occurrence in Southwestern Virginia and especially in the mountain county of Bland is wide and varied, comprising within its scope Building Stones (granite, syenite, gneiss, sandstone and limestone), Non-metallic Minerals (pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, fluorite, silica, ocher, manganese, feldspar, asbestos, talc and soapstone, fullers earth, barite and gypsum), Cement Materials. Clays, Copper, Zinc and Lead (sphalerite, calamine and galenite), Iron Ores (oriskany, hematite, magnetite and limonite) and Coal (bituminous, semi-bituminous, Pocahontas, Montgomery-Pulaski and Bland-Wythe fields) of the highest steam and coking grade.Iron ore occurs in deposits of remarkable richness, the beds of ore being from 20 to 100 feet in thickness and many miles long. The western foothills of the Blue Ridge are lined with brown hematite ore, solid masses of it appearing along the Alleghenies. The yield of brown hematite from this region comprises an important prccentage of the total output of this variety in the County, and also constitutes the bulk of iron ore production in the State. The lead and zinc deposits of Wythe County, adjoining Bland County, have been worked for more than 125 years, and furnished lead to both the Continental and Confederate Armies. Copper deposits are extensive in Southwestern Virginia and numerous noted deposits have long been the seat of an important industry. The sandstones of the Mountains, the limestones and slates of the Valleys, and the granites and cement materials which are widely distributed afford an abundant supply of building materials. From the fertilizing marls and green-sands of Tidewater westward to the vast coal and metalliferous deposits near the Kentucky and West Virginia lines, is spread a great variety of mineral wealth, which affords such basis as to make the mining industry an important factor in the industrial activity of the State. The mining of coal in Virginia began in 1775, near Richmond. From the beginning of this industry until 1789, the entire output went to supply the local demand. From this time until the building of the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1882, the annual shipments from Virginia have increased up to about 145,000 tons, and then followed the development of the great coal deposits of Southwestern Virginia, notably the Pocahontas region, and the State soon came into prominence as a great coal producer, the most important deposits being in the great Appalachian region.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. ' Ingrid Bergman By Grady Harp Michael Miller has researched many sources and has come up with a book of Positive Thing Quotes and he arranges this very impressive collection of quotes from famous people into four categories: POSITIVE THINKING QUOTES, INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES, AFFIRMATION QUOTES and SUCCESS QUOTES. His purpose is to offer thoughts everyday that help to rediscover our inner self and reclaim our `me-time', guiding us lovingly from one day to the next. The quotes come from a vast selection of writers and thinkers who have confronted odds with positive thinking - a signal that we are able to do the same. Or as Michael says, `Learn how to become a respected leader. Feel free in giving, as well as in receiving. It is our birthright to be happy and successful and loved.' He suggests reading a quote a day (hence, the 365 choice of number for quotes - a full year's supply of inspiration) but that is not to say reading the entire book many times will be anything but enriching! Some examples of the quotations included are as follows:`Be yourself, and be the person you hope to be.' Robert Louis Stevenson`Cease to struggle and you cease to live.' Thomas Carlyle'Hate. It has caused a lot of problems in this world but has not solved one yet.' Maya Angelou`I think it's very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by another person.' Oscar Wilde'Magic is believing in yourself. If you can do that, you can make anything happen.' Johann Wolfgang von Goethe`The only way to have a friend is to be one.' ' Ralph Waldo Emerson`What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.' ' Jane Goodall`I will never understand all the good that a simple smile can accomplish.' ' Mother TeresaThese are only a few of the many inspiring quotes Michael has curated. He presents them with some very awe-inspiring photographs that match the moods of the words. As he states, `Happiness is a skill worth practicing'. Welcome to peace. Grady Harp, May 15

The Dream Dictionary of Modern Times By Steven Binko [[VIDEOID:74d3b76a06763c08c6a4b4603674a678]] Llewellyn's Complete Dictionary of Dreams is a great resource for those interested in dream interpretation. The terminology in the book is modernized which I found to be especially helpful. Something else that I was impressed about was the diversity of the symbology. Also, some of the topics that they talk about are really well developed and take several different approaches. Overall, a great book! View the video for my video review!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great buy!! By May Wow this book is amazing. The definitions are lengthy and give thorough explanation (not just one liners as ive seen in other books). It is not pocket sized so this is not the type you can throw in your purse. This is a great book to leave at your bed side or coffee table. This would make an excellent gift for anyone. We all have strange dreams sometimes and always wonder what they mean.
