By JustEnjoyTheShow I anticipated that I would enjoy this book by Eddie Shapiro - I just did not anticipate how MUCH I would enjoy it! The interviews are, very refreshingly, NOT concise! They are in depth, they answer questions that a fan would ask, they answer questions that theater professionals would have, they answer questions that sometimes, had not even been asked (See Elaine Stritch and Carol Channing).I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who loves theater - particularly musical theater - in your life. Whether they are a professional, a fan, a lover of celebrity - this book combines all of it. I feel like I 'know' the journeys of these women so much better now - and I understand, possibly for the first time, the benefits and the repercussions of being a celebrated TONY Winner - which is a rare thing.Buy it- it is like sitting down with your best friend after watching a show and saying how much you loved it. It should be recommended reading for all theater majors in University, in my opinion. I have bought it for myself and I have given it as a gift - it is just the BEST.

Each of these women reveal things that I haven't heard/read them reveal anywhere else, and by the time I got to the end of the book, I felt sad that the conversations were over. There's a lot to be learned here, not just about working in the theater, but about resilience and grace and humor and confidence and food poisoning.If I quoted all my favorite lines, this review would be as long as the book, so here's a selection:"The Tonys are a pain in the ass." - Patti Lupone, p. 161."I do think my only job is to fight for my character, and I learned that.
