It would be helpful if the authors identified their intended audience on the cover rather than in the very easy-to-miss section "Before you begin" on page xxxi. As the authors state, "this book is not a tutorial." Nor does it contain any tutorials. They state that minimum knowledge is the polls tutorial, but as far as I can tell the book is written for experienced web programmers with a solid background in Django who are looking for tips, tricks, and style pointers. The book is not really useful for beginners (well it wasn't for me) and that would have been nice to have known up front. Here is a concrete example of what I am talking about. In a total of 7 pages, chapter two covers: SQL database options, pip, virtualenv, vagrant / VM, and version control options. I have made passing use of all of these, but found myself none the wiser after reading the chapter. If you are looking to _learn_ about these kind of things, rather than simply being introduced to the authors' well-informed preferences, this is not the book for you.I read up to chapter 7 before throwing in the towel. My general opinion is that you have to already know quite a lot about what the authors are talking about before you will get much out of what they say.Two other shortcomings (but not deal breakers) are (a) the book has so many links to other material that reading it as a hard-copy is a real drag -- it would be much better as an online resource with hyperlinks; and (b) the figures are sometimes cute but rarely helpful or insightful or useful. That said, the book is well written, the authors certainly know a lot, and it seems like it would be a good reference for an experienced web programmer looking to improve their Django game.

Must read for anyone using Django By Bartek Even if you're already an experienced Django developer, this is great book to go over the best practices. Covers very wide range of topic, from as trivial as code layout, to as vital a security. It's not yet-another-introductory book, so you won't find parts of the book where you'd say "I already know that" and just skip.On the other hand, if you just started with Django, this is great follow-up after reading the tutorial.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. A Book By Authors Who Know Both Django AND English! By John W Howard Django is a great framework for Python-powered websites, but it can be hellishly confusing (ironic considering how intuitive Python is compared with most other major programming languages). It doesn't help that the official documentation is often confusing and unclear. Furthermore, what 3rd party Django books exist are mostly now out-of-date considering how quickly development has proceeded on Django. Consider that just 5 years ago Django was on version 1.2-- and the changes since then have been enormous and render make many earlier Django how-to books, even those covering versions up to 1.5 and 1.6, confusing and occasionally dangerous to use. This new version of "Two Scoops of Django" is updated for 1.8 (the current release) and, even better, is written in plain, comprehensible English, with excellent examples, code snippets, and useful tips. My only word of caution is that this isn't a great book for complete newcomers to Django-- as the authors make clear, "Two Scoops" doesn't intend to be a basic tutorial or comprehensive guide. Instead it's a well-organized collection of 'best practices', lessons learned, practical advice, and informed opinion. That said, any developer who has a basic familiarity with the framework and is planning to do further work with Django would be well-advised to add this book to their library.

Excerpt from Light for StudentsThis book has been written to meet the requirements of students who wish to obtain an accurate and comprehensive knowledge of Geometrical and Physical Optics. In many instances results of recent researches are described, in connection with important laws which they elucidate. The mathematical investigations have, in all cases, been rendered as simple as possible, and have been developed so as to direct attention to the physical aspect of the subject. No knowledge of the Calculus is assumed on the part of the student. A number of illustrative experiments which may readily be performed are fully described, and numerous questions, mostly selected from public examination papers, are appended. The first ten chapters are devoted to Geometrical Optics, i.e., to explaining the consequences of the laws of Reflection and Refraction of Light. Some of the most important optical instruments, including the eye, are dealt with. Points which commonly present difficulties to students, such, for example, as the method of achromatising an eye-piece, are explained in considerable detail. The remaining ten chapters are devoted to the development of the Wave Theory of Light. While ample attention is devoted to the more elementary parts of the subject, full explanations are also given of many points not usually dealt with in books of similar scope; as instances, the investigation of the velocity of transverse waves in an elastic solid, and Sellmeier's Theory of Dispersion, may be mentioned.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. It does not hide behind the load of equations that one usually finds in Optics books. Many optical phenomena are qualitatively explained. If you want insight, this is the book you must read!

"EMP: The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" begins in rural costal Georgia in the fall 2013. Two retired couples join forces and begin a self-education process regarding the physical nature of electromagnetic pulse (EMP). They quickly learn EMPs affecting Earth's electrical infrastructure can be generated by natural events occuring near the surface of our sun. More worrysome, however, they discover an adversary of the United States may be attempting to create a powerful man-made EMP that would descimate the electrical infrastructure for the entire U.S. This would destroy our nation's status as a global superpower, as well as result in the eventual death of a large percentage of our population. Dialogues among the novel's characters are written using layman's terms. This affords a nonscience-minded reader an oportunity to understand exactly what an EMP is. A reader will also learn of protective measures that can be taken to survive such an event. As the novel's characters are learning about EMP, many readers will also be learning about it for themselves.

EMP: The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia (The Dr. Mark Telfair Series Book 6), by Jon Traer

About the Author Dr. Traer is board certified surgeon who in retirement has become a "novice hobby writer." A native of Atlanta, he and his retired wife (a surgical nurse) have lived on the rural Georgia coast in McIntosh County for the last 20 plus years. The author calls his writing "faction," or fiction based on facts and factual events. "EMP: The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" represents the sixth and possibly final book in the series informally called his "Dr. Mark Telfair Series." Earlier titles in the series focus on medical humor found in surgical training or during many years of private practice in a small town in middle Georgia; later books in the series move on to assisting federal agents who are dealing with drug smuggling on the Georgia coast, working with FBI agents dealing with bioterrorism, and dealing with an intact massive U.S. nuclear weapon reportedly lost in Wassaw sound in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Mark Telfair and his nurse-wife, Anne, are protagonists throughout the entire series.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An Excellent Book! By oldie62 “ EMP: The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia” by Dr. Jon Traer is a great read! Dr Traer takes electricity and the threat of an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) event to weave a plausible story involving hostile governments, nuclear weapons, spies, undercover agents, and an alphabet of government intelligence agencies that is both very entertaining and highly suspenseful as the plot unfolds along the Georgia coast. Mark and Anne Telfair and their friends, the Remingtons, are the main characters trying to deal with the problem of and stopping an EMP. Needless to say, they have their hands full and as the story progressed and it became harder and harder to put down. In my opinion, this is Dr. Traer’s best effort yet. I highly recommend it. The scary part is that EMP is a real threat and that it can and probably will happen. Finally, I strongly recommend that you read both the “author’s note” and “prologue” completely to better understand EMP and the history behind the characters involved in the story. A more in depth review of the book would detract from the story line so just read and enjoy!

Today it is the most valuable book in the world. Recently one sold for over five million dollars. It is the book that rescued the name of William Shakespeare and half of his plays from oblivion. The Millionaire and the Bard tells the miraculous and romantic story of the making of the First Folio, and of the American industrialist whose thrilling pursuit of the book became a lifelong obsession. When Shakespeare died in 1616 half of his plays died with him. No one—not even their author—believed that his writings would last, that he was a genius, or that future generations would celebrate him as the greatest author in the history of the English language. By the time of his death his plays were rarely performed, eighteen of them had never been published, and the rest existed only in bastardized forms that did not stay true to his original language. Seven years later, in 1623, Shakespeare’s business partners, companions, and fellow actors, John Heminges and Henry Condell, gathered copies of the plays and manuscripts, edited and published thirty-six of them. This massive book, the First Folio, was intended as a memorial to their deceased friend. They could not have known that it would become one of the most important books ever published in the English language, nor that it would become a fetish object for collectors. The Millionaire and the Bard is a literary detective story, the tale of two mysterious men—a brilliant author and his obsessive collector—separated by space and time. It is a tale of two cities—Elizabethan and Jacobean London and Gilded Age New York. It is a chronicle of two worlds—of art and commerce—that unfolded an ocean and three centuries apart. And it is the thrilling tale of the luminous book that saved the name of William Shakespeare “to the last syllable of recorded time.”

The Millionaire and the Bard: Henry Folger's Obsessive Hunt for Shakespeare's First Folio, by Andrea Mays

Review “The Millionaire and the Bard weaves a thrilling tale of literary detective work, high financial stakes, and the vision of one man, Henry Folger, to preserve one of the great written treasures of civilization. A splendid debut by Andrea Mays.” —Amanda Foreman, author of Georgiana and A World on Fire“The Millionaire and the Bard is a riveting narrative history about Shakespeare taking root in America. Every page sparkles with crisp prose and smart insights. I find myself cheering for Henry Folger to procure the treasured First Folios. Highly recommended!” —Douglas Brinkley, author of Cronkite“A fascinating account of Henry Clay Folger’s obsession with the Shakespeare First Folio. Folger amassed the collection he had dreamed out, and it is now one of the greater glories of the library in Washington, D.C., that bears his name. The achievement is all the more extraordinary in that Folger was not born into a wealthy family or privileged class. Now the full story has been told in splendid detail by Andrea Mays.” —David Bevington, author Shakespeare and Biography and editor of The Complete Works of Shakespeare“[Mays] honorably resurrects this affluent, rapacious eccentric who became wholly consumed with the acquisition of a priceless bonanza of Shakespeariana. A methodical opuscomprising intensive memoir and inquisitive investigation.” —Kirkus Reviews“Effortless in its unadorned storytelling and exacting in its research. … The book is evocative in its characterizations of both the deified bard and dedicated bibliophile, finding its structure in the parallels between these two ambitious yet mysterious men. … “[A] page–turning detective story [that] speaks to anyone with a love of literary history.” —Publishers Weekly“Mays’ first book is utterly enthralling thanks to her deep sympathy with the Folgers and her fascinated, unstuffy prose.” —Booklist (starred review)“Fascinating … illuminating … poignant. … Recommended for all book lovers, Shakespeare fans, and anyone interested in America's Gilded Age.” —Library Journal“A love story . . . Fun and even suspenseful . . . Awell-researched and surprisingly engrossing account.” —The Wall StreetJournal“Riveting . . . Engaging . . . An American love story.”—Stephen Greenblatt, The New York Times Book Review“[Mays] book does a fine job of discussing how Folger went about acquiring his treasures and what those treasures were and why they are important in literary history . . . a really interesting book.” —The Chicago Tribune “The Millionaire and the Bard, Andrea Mays’ labor-of-love history of the Shakespeare’s First Folio and of Standard Oil executive Henry Folger’s obsession to acquire every possible copy . . . gives an exacting and very readable account of how the folio came to be — and how easily it might not have been.” —Dallas Morning News“Captivating [and] fascinating. … A great story, wonderfully told, that book lovers, readers and collectors will savor.” —Shelf Awareness“Snappy [and] enjoyable” —NPR“The life of a pathological book collector may sound boring, but rest assured, it isn’t. Mays’ narrative is so fast-moving, and peppered with such fascinating detail, that The Millionaire and the Bard almost reads like a thriller.” —Entertainment Weekly

About the Author Andrea E. Mays has degrees in economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton and from UCLA, and teaches economics at California State University at Long Beach. Like Henry Folger, she is a native New Yorker and has had a lifelong Shakespeare obsession. She spent much of her Manhattan girlhood in the New York Public Library listening to vinyl LP recordings of performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The Millionaire and the Bard is her first book.

Prologue

“He was Not of an Age, but for All Time!” —BEN JONSON IT STARTED, as many great obsessions do, with an unremarkable incident, an encounter between a man and a book. It happened during the Gilded Age, in New York City. Henry Clay Folger was a recent graduate of Columbia Law School living in rented rooms, working as a clerk at a local oil refinery, and trying to make his way in the world. He walked into Bang’s auction gallery in Manhattan with, as he later admitted, “fear and trepidation.”1 The books to be sold that day overflowed from the shelves. As an undergraduate at Amherst College he had studied literature, including Shakespeare, whose plays he “read . . . far into the night.”2 He had continued reading for pleasure ever since. He saved every book he ever read. He had always been a collector. At college, he made scrapbooks for his most trivial ephemera, including theater and lecture tickets. But his hoarder’s impulse was still in search of a grand obsession. Henry had never bought a rare book. The closest he had ever come was when he purchased a gift for his young wife. She shared his literary enthusiasm, so he had bought her an inexpensive facsimile of the First Folio of the collected plays of William Shakespeare. He had never seen a real one. The old book that caught his eye at Bang’s was not, however, a coveted First Folio published in 1623, but to his amateur’s eye it seemed close. It was an authentic Fourth Folio, printed in 1685; it was a less valuable edition than a First. Its antiquity excited his fancy. He bid on the book until the auctioneer hammered it down to him for $107.50. He asked if he could pay in installments. When he took it home, he and his wife gazed at the familiar engraving of Shakespeare on the title page. They turned the thick, durable rag paper pages, and savored the familiar words of the plays they both loved, and which they had read many times before in cheap, modern editions. Holding that old book in his hands changed Henry Folger’s life, just as the publication of its first edition more than two hundred fifty years earlier had come to define its author’s. Soon, Folger found himself in the thrall of obsession. The young man who could barely afford a hundred-dollar book would spend a year’s salary for another one, and devote the rest of his life, and millions of dollars, to chasing the rare books he coveted. The apprentice clerk would rise in the world of Gilded Age titans—John D. Rockefeller, J. P. Morgan, Henry Huntington—and join them in a frenzied competition for some of the rarest books in the world. Soon, he would own more volumes than he knew what to do with. They would overwhelm his shelves, his rented rooms, and then his home, and fill secret warehouses and storage lockers to their ceilings. Before long, Henry Folger’s books would dominate his life. But in this ocean of books he prized one above all the others. Today, it is the most valuable book in the world. And, after the King James Bible, the most important. In October 2001, one of the First Folios sold at Christie’s for more than six million dollars. No more than 750 copies were printed, and two-thirds of them have perished over the last 391 years. Around 244 of them survive, and most of those are incomplete. Shakespeare’s First Folio—Folger wanted to own them all. As Victor Hugo wrote, “England has two books, one of which she has made, the other which has made her—Shakespeare and the Bible.” Published in London in 1623, Mr. William Shakespeares Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies revolutionized the language, psychology, and culture of Western civilization. Without the First Folio, published seven years after the playwright’s death, eighteen iconic works, including Macbeth, Measure for Measure, Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, Twelfth Night, The Winter’s Tale, and The Tempest would have been lost. Recognizing that every folio was superficially the same book but that each surviving handmade copy was in fact unique with its own idiosyncratic typographical fingerprint, binding, and provenance, Folger decided that the only way to rediscover Shakespeare’s original intentions and language—what he called “The True Text”—was to buy every copy he could find and subject it to meticulous comparative analysis. Believing that the mysteries of the folios could be fully understood only in the context of their time, he amassed an equally stupendous collection of artwork, books, letters, manuscripts, and antiquities from sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England. He wanted to own Shakespeare. And he did. He came to own more copies of the First Folio than anyone else in the world, more than even the British Library, the ultra-repository in Shakespeare’s homeland. Folger collected more than twice the number of copies known to exist in all of England. How this happened is more than the tale of one passionate bibliophile. It is a story of the Old World giving way to the New, of the power of modern economics and transatlantic trade, and of the irresistible democratization of taste. Everyone knows William Shakespeare. He was born in 1564, and died in April 1616. He wrote approximately thirty-nine plays3 and composed five long poems and 154 sonnets. He failed to publish his collected works—during his lifetime plays were considered ephemeral amusements, not serious literature. By the time of his death he was retired, was considered past his prime, and by the 1620s many of his plays were no longer regularly performed in theaters. No one—not even Shakespeare himself—believed that his writings would last, that he was a genius, or that future generations would celebrate him as the greatest and most influential writer in the history of the English language. Harold Bloom has argued that Shakespeare transformed the nature of man and created modern consciousness. If that is so, then the First Folio—not the works of Darwin, Marx, or Freud—is the urtext of modernism. If the Bible is the book of God, then Shakespeare is the book of man on earth. We use the words he invented, we speak in his cadences, and we think in his imagery. The epitaph that fellow poet Ben Jonson penned for William Shakespeare proved to be prophetic: “He was not of an age, but for all time!” Without the First Folio, the evolution from poet to secular saint would have never happened, and the story of that book is an incredible tale of faith, friendship, loyalty, and chance. Today, few people realize how close the world came, in the aftermath of Shakespeare’s death, to losing half of his plays. Henry Clay Folger, however, remains one of the least-known industrial titans of his time. Folger, from the twilight years of the Gilded Age through the comet’s arc of the Roaring Twenties, built the greatest Shakespeare library in the world, transporting it across the Atlantic piece by piece and hoarding it in thousands of unopened shipping crates, locked away in secret New York warehouses. And yet his life remains curiously unexamined. He is a forgotten man. This is a story of resurrection, of a magical book and two men, an American millionaire and an English playwright—the man who coveted the First Folio, and the man who composed it.

It was 11:00 pm and I was sitting up in bed reading, unable to put the book down, biting my fingernails in anxiety.I was not reading a thriller. No character was in a life or death situation.I had to laugh at myself. I was reading to see if Henry Folger's quest to purchase a rare Shakespeare First Folio was successful. The Millionaire and the Bard: Henry Folger's Obsessive Hunt for Shakespeare's First Folio by Andrea Mays was an informative and interesting read. Mays "tells the miraculous and romantic story of the making of the First Folio, and of the American industrialist whose thrilling pursuit of the book became a lifelong obsession."In Shakespeare's day plays were not published. The theater was about as well respected as network television is today. Paper was expensive and publishing was a long process. Plays were not 'set in stone' but adapted and altered and improved constantly. Without legal protection of intellectual rights a theater troupe's repertoire was jealously protected. Actors were given their lines, but no complete script circulated.Shakespeare wrote plays for twenty years then returned to Stratford where he died in 1616. It was seven years after his death that his business partners in the theater, John Hemings and Henry Condell, gathered all of his work to publish thirty six plays--the First Folio. The book took years to print, one page at a time, 750 copies, and took nine years to sell out. With each new publication of the Folios changes were made. Plays were added that were not by the Bard. Older folios were discarded, replaced by the new. The books ended up in personal libraries across Britain, often forgotten or unidentified. One of the Gilded Age's nouveau riche industrialists was William Clay Folger, who worked with Standard Oil. He didn't make unlimited money like his employer John D. Rockerfeller. Folger and his wife Emily agreed in their early marriage to live frugally, keep their lives private, and to spend all their money on Henry's dream of building a world-class collection of Shakespeareana. Mays chronicles Folger's life long quest for all things Shakespeare with particular consideration on his First Folio acquisitions. He ended up with a third of the surviving, known First Folios. Folger was lambasted by the Brits for taking their native son's legacy out of country. The Folgers put their collection away in warehouses across New York City, unseen for years, until in 1932 the Folger Shakespeare Library was built in Washington, D.C.Mays points out that Folger is an example of hoarding 'done right'. The Folgers' ashes reside in the library along with their collection.I enjoyed reading about Shakespeare's career, how books were published, the early collecting by Folger, and the building of the library. Because he bought so many First Folios it would get tedious reading about each sale, but the lesser important Folios are quickly noted. I also found interesting the viewpoint on the Standard Oil antitrust act and Ida Tarbell's journalistic attacks--a far cry from how things were perceived in The Bully Pulpit by Goodwin from the perspective of Teddy Roosevelt and the McClure's magazine staff.I received a free ebook from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

By Veritas With painstaking scholarship and attention to detail, Andrea Mays effortlessly captures the largely untold story about how one man, Henry Folger, and his passion for Shakespeare and the publication of the First Folio, grew into a lifetime quest. In this, her first book, Ms. Mays, transforms a rather mundane story of acquiring 82 copies of this monumental Shakespeare publication in the history of printing, into a compelling account of an obsessive book collector’s pursuit of the seemingly impossible.Ms. Mays devotes many of her opening chapters to Shakespeare’s life, his times, and his writings, as well as the publication of his plays – years after his death. She takes both readers new to Shakespeare’s story, and those with much knowledge, on the journey which fast forwards to the arrival of Henry Folger, and other American collectors who elevate Shakespeare enthusiasm in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century.Ms. Mays not only establishes herself as an unquestionable Shakespeare scholar, but also demonstrates an uncanny ability to capture the spirit of bookbinding, book collecting, and antiquarian book selling the world over. Her book is highly recommended for both students of Shakespeare, and for those who are interesting in an extraordinary book collector during the age of the “robber-barons” who devoted his time and money to lay the foundation for the creation of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C.

16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. An exhilarating and entertaining read! By Kindle Customer I couldn't put this down. I dropped it once, but that was by accident. Mays has taken a story about an eccentric, publicity - shy, hard-working, happily married, obsessive compulsive man and turned it into a ripping yarn. While her scholarship and meticulous research is evident, the minutiae never bogs down the narrative. I learned something in spite of myself.

By WWS Topical, timely, well written. As the title states, this is a topical, timely and well written guide for getting the reader into a mindset to start thinking about their daily routine and how they can enhance their ability to deal with situations that might arise as they go about their day to day tasks. This is reiterated throughout the guide, so the primary focus of the guide is never lost. The specific equipment recommendations are well presented with the reasoning behind their ratings explained thoroughly. And if you don’t like the top 3 choices, the author routinely gives a list of 5 to 7 other choices. Leaving it up to you to decide what you need for your everyday carry. In a nutshell, there’s a whole internet’s worth of articles out there about preparing for TEOTWAWKI, but very few that can help you prepare for the everyday emergencies you, specifically, might have to deal with. This is one of them and one of the best.As always, that’s my opinion and I could be wrong.

I found this to be a very straightforward and approachable eBook on the subject of an "everyday carry kit." It does make the necessary distinctions between the three main "levels" of preparedness: everyday carry kit (focus of this book), get home bag, and bug out bag. It explained the everyday essentials concept in a way that made sense, and how to determine what would be most useful to carry daily based on realistic anticipated dangers. Highly recommended for a true survivor's library.

Not an animal-friendly book: covers inhumane maceration & mutilation for farming By Xi.Persei I was given this book by a friend who knows I love Muscovies, their very individual personas and behavior. They used to live near my old home and were free. I was shocked that this book discussed inhumane farming techniques such as killing unwanted extra young males via an electric grinder given a less gruesome name of "culling". Also it discusses what is explained as standard Fish & Wildlife procedure of removing the digging tip of the bill and pinioning one wing and clipping off a toe on each foot to prevent escape from captivity or self-defense. I felt there was little or no coverage of animal behavior that didn't involve exploiting these freedom-loving creatures for repossession of their meat, eggs, or using their beauty to obtain prize titles for self-aggrandizement. Fyi for those who love ducks--this isn't for you.

Following this author's tradition in providing information to those seeking truthful understanding of spirit work, Spiritual Pragmatism focuses more on the practical issues of our societies that will eventually have to be addressed if we truly want to see our cognitive advancement take place as a species and our world to change for the better for everyone. Where the previous works have focused more on explaining the foundations of religion and mystical traditions, this volume delves more into certain aspects of historical accounts and political agendas, and provides an overview of how the world got to be in the condition it is at the hands of ego-driven people all around the world. This book is not an exhaustive presentation about recent world history, but serves more as a springboard and an invitation for the genuine seeker to dig more deeply into the information provided in this book.

There's a Lion in My Cornflakes, by Michelle Robinson

From School Library Journal K-Gr 2—When a young boy with a Dennis the Menace haircut and huge round glasses sees that his cereal box offers a "free lion" if one saves 100 coupons, the game is on. The young boy and his brother Dan buy boxes and boxes of cornflakes to cut out the coupons, saving them to send in and get their own lion. The family eats cornflakes morning, noon, and night. After sending in their pile of collected coupons, the boys eagerly watch for their lion to arrive in the mail. All the other kids who had collected coupons already have their lions, but when the delivery truck finally arrives, the brothers get a bear instead. They exchange their unwanted bear and get a crocodile and so on, adding new creatures each time. Each arrival is more ridiculous than the last, and after all of their complaints to the cornflake company, they wind up with a lifetime supply of a cereal they dislike! Gack! The boys learn to appreciate all the things their unexpected prizes can do for them and eventually become happy with their menagerie. But then they get a box of cornflakes advertising a tiger if one collects 100 coupons. Hmmm. This is a delightfully silly book with terrific illustrations. The graphic for the lion coupons alone is a winner. Exaggerated cartoonlike pictures will make young readers laugh out loud. VERDICT A recommended selection for children's collections.—Mary Hazelton, formerly at Warren & Waldoboro Elementary Schools, ME

This story has so many great twists and hilarious situations, and is so darn silly. Plus my kids had themselves a long conversation about what animal THEY'D want in their cereal boxes.

By Samantha Got this for my cousin..Him and his wife just had a baby and they needed some ideas for putting together a nursery for their little baby boy. Has a lot of information in the book itself. Has a lot of hints and ideas on how to construct the entire room. My cousin read it in a matter of a few days and loved it. They are going to use every single piece of information in the book!

By Levi Definitely made it easier on getting my friends newborn sons room ready. As him and his girl just had their son almost month ago, he still couldn't totally figure out how he wanted to setup the kids room as of yet. So I figured I would help them out and thought this would be perfect to keep things mostly at peace within the household and so far it's been perfect at that, the tranquility now attained is just magnificent.

Frazer Very helpful since I have started taking lessons at 70 years of age and having a tough time of it. Teacher has made me learn to read music and is trying to break me of 50 years of bad habits. All the dance tunes I once knew have gone up in smoke becauseteacher won't let me hang on to the neck with my thumb or hold the bow like a fishing rod. I can't let teacher know I have this book because she does not think it is good for me to fiddle and not violin. This is a good resource.Bruce Frazer

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good By Kindle Customer This book goes over basic phrases you might memorize if you just want to speak and understand enough spanish to get by. It also goes into more detail about a lot of grammar etc. I liked the way verbs were explained here, there are a lot of patterns to irregular verbs I never picked up on before and it goes over them here. I found it helpful.

Looking to try straw bale gardening, but not sure that it's the right solution for you? When I began looking into straw bale gardening, I had a lot of questions about the techniques used in this type of gardening. Would vegetables and herbs really grow in straw? Is straw bale gardening as easy as it sounds?

We usually think of gardening as planting seeds directly in the ground, then weeding them carefully all throughout the growing season. When we tell someone we're about to start a garden, the likely response is "Wow, that's a lot of work!" I was fascinated by the idea that it might be possible to grow lots of vegetables at home, save money on groceries, and not do much work at all while meeting my goals, so I started growing things in straw bales. Some things grew well, while others did not. Along the way, I learned how to make simple straw bales produce a bumper crop of vegetables. If you're interested in growing food but don't want to waste time digging or weeding, this method is for you.

Learn how to turn humble straw bales, a little soil, and some tiny plants into an abundant garden that's easy to care for. Also, you'll discover:

  • Which vegetables grow best in straw bales
  • Simple methods for dealing with common garden pests and plant diseases
  • Easy, step-by-step instructions for getting started
  • And much more!

By Rebecca Grosch Straw bale gardening is a great alternative to traditional methods such as pot gardening or gardening on the ground. This book explains the benefits in great detail - how it's sustainable, keeps pests and weeds away, and how it's clean. It also goes on to explain how to choose good nitrogen sources and how to treat common pest problems. For the price - this book is a steal. Most 99¢ books do not go into anywhere near the amount of depth and how-to that this book does. Very well done

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Interesting Idea By TVen I had never heard of straw bale gardening before reading this book. I love the concept. Part of the reason I have avoided gardening is because I didnt want to have to be out in the heat, on my hands an knees constantly weeding. With Straw bale gardening I learned that it is a much quick and easier way to maintain a garden and since less chemicals are needed because harmful insects cant get up inside the straw bales. The main reason I love this is because it makes my food healthier because it isnt covered in pestisides. This is a great resource as it tells you what you can plant and gives you tips on how to start and elements to consider as well.

19 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Fortunately I got this on a free promotion By Glenis Boulanger I'm getting sick of books which are obviously written - or bought pre-written - from someone who doesn't actually practice what they preach. There are dozens of websites devoted to this subject written by people who do have straw bale gardens. If this was written by a gardener who uses straw bales I would expect to see plenty of pictures and examples but NO. A few photos of vegetables, even the first image is of a regular soil garden! . Fortunately I got this on a free promotion, if I had paid for it I'd be even angrier than I am now!
