Map you can read By Shopperbarb Well, the reason I wanted this map is because I read Marcia Willet books and they all happen in Cornwall, since I have never been there, I like to know what location she is speaking about. I like the map a lot, it is so bright and easy to read. Makes me want to go to Cornwall, Devon. Thank you

We are going to be in places with little to no cell service so GPS won't work and it's also much easier to figure out where we should be with a larger map to look at (plus I love maps!).

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great starter for learning Korean. By NJames I really liked this book, it does a great job teaching Hangul. The text does a good job of explaining pronunciations, and is backed up with very nice audio files for every lesson. The lessons also cover stroke order for writing character, and there are some vocabulary words in the final chapters to start you off.I really wish they had more books in the series, but their main focus seems to be their site, which I haven't tried yet.Also, I do wish their instructions for getting the audio files were a bit clearer, but in my opinion, that's not even worth knocking off a star.

It's an excellent way to start learning Korean language. It breaks everything down and provides you guidance that you need when learning a new language. It's well written and easy to understand. Most importantly, it's well thought out and planned so that the learning process is as smooth as possible. This book definitely allowed me to progress quite a bit and I'm very happy with that. Highly recommend this bootcamp, you'll actually enjoy it.

It's well written and breaks each step down to teach you every single thing you need to learn to become a master at Hangeul.I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a newbie to the language, or even someone who just wants to educate themselves further. Not so much tips, but more like a reference when you don't know the meaning of a word. Simple entries such as CMYK, Pantone and Kerning can easily be searched on the internet for definitions. Other entries such as Brainstorming and Feedback offer no real substance. The Questions entry states to ask the right questions but fails to outline what constitutes a right question.On the path to success as a graphic designer this book may represent dipping your pinky toe in the water. If you are looking for more substantial information I would advise to skip this title.

I would probably buy this book for a child who has some experience in scratch, but it is probably good even if they do not.

Tupelo Schneck I have a child just about to enter school, and I am really excited for him to be old enough to work with this book! The writing is jocular and engaging, and moves fast, so that it's enjoyable just reading through the book. It's very fast to get you up and running with working project---you'll have a working Flappy Bird clone by the end of the first chapter. At the same time, the style is extremely inviting and encouraging. It does a great job of making the reader feel confident in creating his or her own work.The book is divided into three parts, on design, animation, and (game) development. The level of detail is substantial. I was impressed to see details about animation (not even about Scratch per se) such as how to make a realistic walking animation, and how to get a character's mouth to be in synch with spoken words.The author himself notes up front, with characteristic humor, that thanks to the Web, you don't need to buy a book to learn Scratch. But this book would be a really fun way to do it. The encouraging style would help any student feel able to do amazing things. And the humor and level of detail mean there's a lot even for the most confident student. I recommend it!

Used this same book for the tech exam and aced it. It goes straight to the point. Still, I have heftier books as well to accompany this one read through with more time and continue learning. This won't teach the "why" (at least not in depth--it only provides the pool of Q&A and a short description of "why" and where to go to for a longer explanation)

It has the full question pool and great explanations for all the questions. It includes pictures and diagrams to help explain complicated concepts. This was my only study tool and I passed the test the first time. I am 14 and thought it clearly explained everything. There was one mistake in the book so for anyone buying it the correct answer for question G9B02 is "B". The explanation for the question is correct just the letter was wrong! great book and would recommend to anyone having trouble with the concepts

Good artwork; instruction could be stronger By David Wesley Stump I'm a wildlife illustrator looking for a good, reasonably complete presentation of artistic bird anatomy. This is a handsomely designed, thoughtfully developed book, with a wealth of beautiful and inspiring paintings and drawings by a variety of accomplished avian artists. It does include a series of articulated bird skeleton drawings by the author, and several skilled, even sensitive renderings of bird musculature. It falls short, however, of integrating the science and art of anatomy in a manner that develops, in a strongly visual way, the unique qualities of birds as living animals. The most useful illustrations are sometimes too small to be studied easily, and do not always relate well to the other images in the spread. The author is British, and many of the birds shown are European species. Overall, a valuable and very worthy book, and the best in its field I have seen so far.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Must have book By c.c.c. This is the best book out for budding or experienced avian artists, by one of the best in the world. Every question you might come up with in learning to draw and paint birds AND their environment is well covered. If you have this book and Busby's Drawing Birds, you don't need any other. Art collectors will enjoy it as well to deepen appreciation of avian art past and present. Wooten has really filled a need, and the book is a treasure trove of art from a broad range of artists in an array of styles and media. High quality printing renders the illustrations and reproductions with great fidelity.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I Found This To Be an Excellent Book By Karen Rodden I am an amateur, self-taught artist, so who am I to to judge? However, in my opinion, this is an excellent book. I found the technical instruction very valuable. At some point, it is up to the individual artist to develop his or her own style and the instruction in this book took me to this point. The book goes on to give good insights into the philosophy of capturing birds on paper. Therefore, I found it helpful in taking that leap beyond the technical instruction. I live in New England, while the author lives in Great Britain . Different species of birds are found in different parts of the world, as are different habitats. This book addresses approaches to different categories of birds. The suggestions helped me extrapolate these principles to birding situations I found near to my home. The examples of artwork which illustrate this book, both by the author and by others, are inspirational. The lifelong love and dedication to art and to birds by this author permeates this wonderful book! Karen Rodden

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great way to break your plateau! By Evan Hands down the best book I have in my collection so far. If you are like me and get bored of playing other peoples tabbed music and want to learn how scales can fit together to create music, this is the book for you. I knew very little about scales coming into this book and learned so much about how to play a scale over the entire fretboard. I love blues music, but more importantly, I enjoy heavily blues-influenced rock and roll. If anyone is frustrated that their playing is not getting better and do not know why, this will definitely help. The book is not for beginners and you must have a basic understanding of chords but that is about it! I see plenty of reviews here about how this book is too hard because they cannot do barre chords, well suck it up and start learning because if you ever want to become good you will need them!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Thanks John! Can't wait to start on the next book! By macdeke I just finished this book ... with a distinct advantage. I got to take lessons directly from John as he teaches in St Paul. I started taking the lessons in December informing John that my goals were to 1) Fill the many gaps in my playing, 2) Expand my vocabulary and 3) improve my technique. We accomplished all three in very short time (disclaimer: I've been playing rock for many years). I felt kinda funny, maybe "played down to" in the beginning but kept my mouth shut and my head down. The material gradually progressed, becoming more challenging. Along the way I discovered many points of the Blues language. About halfway through I had epiphany after epiphany as to why the material is organized the way it is and started to hear the many nuances of a living art form. And I was glad I paid attention to the early lessons. Most importantly, I learned how to practice. The fret board can still be a little foreign to me but that will change over time. Try this book if you're looking for the best course on the blues. Be patient. Allow the material to breakdown what you know and build your knowledge back up. The progressions, scales and lead lines you learn are very useful ... as well as diverse. Once you discover what you want to pursue, John's got tons of material in his other books. I'm taking some time to go back over everything we covered, get it absorbed and integrated into my playing. Then, I get to take more lessons from him! By Greg Witt This book is excellent - it is beautifully presented in simple and concise manner - lessons are broken down into fundamental assignments that gradually build to form a solid foundation - just like taking lessons in person.I have been struggling to learn the core elements of Blues guitar - until I found this book.Other writers delve too deeply into theory and complex explanations of what the lesson is about. This book does not do that - there are, of course, explanations as to why one is learning the lesson and what the lesson serves, but it is the only book I have found so far that gets you playing almost at once.I am looking forward to completing these lessons and moving along to the next book in the series.Thanks to John Gnapes for sharing his teaching ability -
