Excerpt from Lectures Introductory to the Theory of Functions of Two Complex Variables: Delivered to the University of Calcutta, During January and February 1913This present volume consists substantially of a course of lectures which, by special invitation of the authorities, I delivered in the University of Calcutta during parts of January and February, 1913. The invitation was accompanied by a stipulation that the lectures should be published. As regards choice of subject for the course, I was allowed complete freedom. It was intimated that the class would be mainly or entirely of a post-graduate standing. What was desired, above all, was an exposition of some subject that, later on, might suggest openings to those who had the will and the skill to pursue research.Accordingly I selected a subject, which may be regarded as being still in not very advanced stages of development, and into the exposition of which I could incorporate some results of my own which had been in my possession for some time. Owing to the limitations of the period over which the course should extend, it was not practicable to make the lectures a systematic discussion of the whole subject; and I therefore had to choose portions, in order to discuss a variety of topics and to indicate some paths along which further progress might be possible. Thus, instead of concentrating upon one particular issue, I preferred to deal with several distinct lines of investigation, even though their treatment had to be relatively brief.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. a great book intro book By A. Noushin This book deals with the principles that are introductory to the theory of function s of several complex variables. As the title of book suggest, its main focus is the complex function of two variables. However the majority of theorems and concepts discussed in this book may be re-stated for complex functions of several variables with little or no change. I am NOT any expert on the theory of complex functions, however I found this book very readable and void of unnecessary abstract language. You would need a reasonably good background in theory of analytic functions of a single variable to appreciate what can, and what cannot be extended to more than one variable. If you just are getting started, this is an excellent source. Here is what is in this book:Chapter one deals with various approaches for geometrical representation of two complex function.Chapter two is on analytical properties of defining two variables in terms of two others, I.e. linear transformation.Chapter three is on power series.Chapter four deals with extension of Weierstrass approximation theorem and its special form and limitations in two variables.Chapter five is concerned with extensions of Weierstrass's theorems on functions without essential singularities in the finite complex field of variation.Chapter six is on integration in complex field of variation.Chapter seven is on simultaneous behavior of two analytic functions when they are independent (they have no common factor). The last chapter is on uniform periodic functions of two complex variables. The main text is 281 pages. The book is 436 pages. The last 150 pages are collection of articles and supplementary materials in German. You can view the book at: [...] (one page at a time as images)If you already know about this subject and you wish to delve into the details, one suggestion may be: Methods of Theory of functions of Several Complex Variables by Vladimirov. But this seemed very difficult for me when I looked at it years ago.
