What if UFO experiences are the result of large-scale, unconscious, psychic forces?
Parapsychology and UFOlogy are like oil and water. They just don’t mix, despite the decades-long efforts of some highly respected researchers to call attention to the paranormal or parapsychological aspects of UFO events. In Illuminations, sociologist Eric Ouellet offers a novel approach to a phenomenon that has thus far resisted all other efforts to explain it, be it as extraterrestrial craft, time travelers, secret government projects, or natural phenomena.
Combining research in parapsychology, sociology, and UFOlogy, Ouellet provides a thought provoking reassessment of several well-known UFO cases, including the Washington, DC, UFO wave of 1952, the Betty and Barney Hill abduction of 1961, the Rendlesham UFO incident of 1980, and the Belgian UFO wave of 1989-1991. While not claiming to have the final solution to the UFO mystery, he offers much food for thought and a refreshing outlook on a stubbornly elusive phenomenon.
ERIC OUELLET is professor of Defence Studies at the Royal Military College of Canada, and at the Canadian Forces College (Canada’s Joint Staff and War College). He has a Ph.D. in sociology from York University (Toronto, Canada), and he is the liaison officer for Canada with the Parapsychological Association. He has published parapsychological work in the Australian Journal of Psychology, EdgeScience, and the Bulletin Métapsychique. His other research works focus on military sociology and war studies.

A Major Contribution to the Field(s) By K About time this hypothesis ('parapsychological') was given a current and full explication including literature review and ingeniously applied to the most relevant contemporary UFO cases. The author offers a real case that the parapsychological hypothesis is the most comprehensive theory proposed thus far encompassing the complexities of UFO events, and what's more: has strong explanatory validity for all the phenomenological dimensions of these events. The author is a rare type of thinker today-- a mind that is scientifically and phenomenologically trained w/ a refined sense for pattern recogniton across multiple domains: psychological, sociocultural, political, symbolic/metaphorical; and obviously well-informed of current knowledge of scientific parapsychology. A major contribution to a field of few legitimate ones (Ufology). This book is up there w/ those of Jaques Vallee, Thomas E Bullard, J. Allen Hynek, John E Mack and few others who have actually taken the time to not only conduct actual research but to THINk about the findings and data w/out a priori commitment to a theory or paranoid agenda. This books must also be a significant contribution to scientific parapsychology as well which has unfortunately, perhaps till now, kept its distance from Ufology. Who can blame them. This book sets a new standard for Ufology and opens a way for more parapsychological researchers to do some real science on a much maligned but real phenomenon.

Wells Illuminations shines a new light on some old cases from Rendlesham Forest, to Betty and Barney Hill, as well as several UFO waves. It takes a "parapsychological approach" but not one of other dimensions and demons. I first heard an interview with the author on Coast to Coast AM , and was so fascinated I purchased it in the next few days and it did NOT disappoint ! Now some Extraterrestrial hypothosizers might call it "disinfo" of some sort, but its well written, and its definitely worth reading even if by the end it hasn't convinced you. I feel Oullet is onto something.
