Some of the 100 objects include the Cape York Meteorite, discovered in Greenland in 1894; the Haida Canoe, built in 1878 by the Indians of the Pacific Northwest and carved from the trunk of a large cedar tree; the Blue Whale, a fiberglass replica of a 94-foot whale caught in 1925 off South George Island and the Warren Mastodon skeleton, the first complete mastodon skeleton discovered in the United States. Each card presents a full-frame photograph of the object on the front and a 200-word description on the back that tells of the origin and age of the object and its scientific and historic significance.

Sun Don't know why no body comment on this.... came cross this card deck when I went to AMNH ... the price is $24 in the gift store... using the Amazon iPhone app to scan the bar code and found out Amazon offer it for $14. it's a good deal. The cards are beautiful. for the price nothing to complain about. But I should have bought it at AMNH to support the museum(however I think they will got a portion from the sales at Amazon also) .

About the Author Jennifer Shaw grew up in Milwaukee, studied photography at RISD, and then moved to New Orleans in pursuit of the artist’s life. She teaches the disappearing art of darkroom photography at the Louise S. McGehee School and works as a fine art photographer. She was a founding officer and board member of the New Orleans Photo Alliance and directs their annual PhotoNOLA festival, in addition to chasing after two young sons.Jennifer’s photographs have been published in B&W Magazine, Shots, Light Leaks Magazine, The Oxford American, The Sun and The New Orleans Review. Her work is exhibited internationally and held in public collections, including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Not a typical New Orleans title By Richard Derus Rating: 5* of fiveThe Book Report: Very, very pregnant photographer, husband, dogs, and cats, all escape New Orleans barely ahead of Hurrican Katrina. Son is delivered, family is displaced, much of New Orleans is destroyed, to our lasting national shame, and family returns to rebuild and resume living in the place they love and call home. The story isn't new, and it's not the first time anyone anywhere has told it in this words-and-images fashion.My Review: But no one else anywhere has Ms. Shaw's extraordinary and amazing eye; her terse prose style, so beautifully suited to both story and images; or her quite astounding luck in being published by this amazing press, Chin Music.The book itself is worthy of being purchased simply to put on your front room's most prominent table. It is gorgeous. Bound in real cloth (my dog is still sniffing it, she's never encountered real cloth binding before) which is printed (let me assure you that this technique is faaar from simple, and its failure rate is significant; the technical demands on the printer, the designer, and the person making the color separations are quite significant; and the aesthetic that demanded this *exactly*right* production is quite rarefied) with an eerie, atmospheric image of great subtlety, the object itself begins its acquaintance with you by offering an uneasy glimpse into the mind of its makers. This will not be a candy-coated, literal, easy-to-process exercise in the journalism of indignance.Opening the book, one reads the perfectly serviceable prose of two brief essays, one by Rob Walker, a former New Orleanian, and one by Ms. Shaw. Now we are mise en scene (oh, the badness of the pun), and the next page-flip takes you to spread 01: "We left in the dark of night." That's all she says in words. The photo facing the page bears a moment of painful clarity, expressed in a simple image of a red toy truck's tailgate retreating down a highly textured, shining road. The dark world closing in claustrophobically around this single spot of life, vividly red, the beautiful shining cobblestone-like texture of the road, the smoothness of the chiaroscuro (used properly, readers of Louise Penny's latest book!)...well, I could wax rhapsodic until you beg for mercy, but I won't. No point. Has to be experienced.The use of toys and models to create the photo story is delightful. If I see one more image of people on a roof waving at the news copter while their house gives way beneath them, I shall scream blue murder. I avoid picture books of 9/11 for the same reason: I can't bear it. I've seen it! I've seen it! Stop smacking me! I won't look! But Shaw doesn't smack me. She wallops me ten minutes after I've seen her images. Dolls, with their awful starey eyes, usually make me uneasy. They still do here, but they are meant to, and they are deployed in simple, uncontrived story-telling, not some absurd, doomed effort to be archly Commenting On Life. The documentary "Marwencol" has much the same effect on me, and the same affect on its medium, as Shaw's dolls do.And I must mention one thing in particular: Shaw's son is represented here by the King Cake baby. It's a nice, quiet, unpretentious symbol of her son's heritage. To someone without New Orleans knowledge, it's invisible and unnecessary to appreciate the story; to someone who knows what the symbol is, it's poignant and fitting.Love New Orleans or loathe it, care about personal stories or not, this beautiful object should be in your home if for no other reason than to demonstrate quietly that you have excellent aesthetic taste and a real love for the object we call book. And the best part? It's only $18.Buy one. Tell me I'm wrong. I dare you.

NATURES WRATH AND AFTERMATH By NATURE LOVER In contrast to many written Katrina memoirs, the visual images here create a feeling for the situation that faced many New Orleaneans. On several service trips as an advisor to Illinois State Students, we worked on homes of folks stuck in Houston Tennessee or other venues, because they found a job that fed their families but kept them from returning to work on their homes. People farther afield (some of them masking racism) deplored the fact that outsiders were there helping these folks, despite the fact that Nature's wrath reached an unprecedented level that destroyed the entire economy of a major city. Jennifer's unique depiction of her family's ordeal illustrates the effect of being locked out of ones home for two months, not to mention childbirth in absentia, and being forced to depend on fate, friends and relatives in the face of the incompetence of the Bush administration and FEMA. Returning to their home on high ground near the Mississippi, levees which were not challenged by the storm, her family was lucky to have an intact home needing only a new roof, refrigerator and some yard cleaning. Others had walked out the door leaving a just-cooked supper on the stove and had great difficulty in mustering the resources to undo the damage of water half way (and in some neighborhoods all the way) to the ceiling.This is an excellent companion book for the analytical non-fiction writing and realistic photographic representations of New Orleans and its inhabitants after Katrina. It has the same strong emotional insight into consequences for a single family as David Egger's account of Zeitoun's needless imprisonment by the Homeland Security Apparatus. The book itself is luxurious to the eye and touch.I

Clark Hurricane story is the author's retelling of her ordeal in dealing with hurricane Katrina. The evacuation, aftermath and eventual return home are told through photographs created using a Holga camera modified to take macro images of tiny models that illustrate various milestones of her adventure.Her choice of the Holga for this purpose was pure genius as its unpredictablility, soft focus and vignetting add a dream like quality to the images. For those of us that see life through a somewhat myopic, though out of focus mind's eye, the surrealism that the Holga brings is a natural fit.Each image is accompanied by a simple, concise sentence that in some ways adds a children's book character to the monograph. An image entitled "It was impossible not to watch." forces one to relive the aftermath of Katrina's wrath and watching newscasts showing the desperation of victims clinging to their roof tops waiting for a rescue which took way too long.Prints from the book are available at the Jennifer Schwartz Gallery in Atlanta Georgia. I'll be travelling to Atlanta later in the year and look foward to seeing and perhaps collecting a few of the images that touched my soul during the reading of this wonderful book.I can highly recommend Hurricane Story to anyone that may be inspired by the use of unconventional photography for stroytelling. If you are a Holga or Lomo photographer, then the book is simply a must-have.

In 2005, the Supreme Court ruled that the city of New London, Connecticut, could condemn fifteen residential properties in order to transfer them to a new private owner. Although the Fifth Amendment only permits the taking of private property for  "public use," the Court ruled that the transfer of condemned land to private parties for "economic development" is permitted by the Constitution - even if the government cannot prove that the expected development will ever actually happen. The Court's decision in Kelo v. City of New London empowered the grasping hand of the state at the expense of the invisible hand of the market.        In this detailed study of one of the most controversial Supreme Court cases in modern times, Ilya Somin argues that Kelo was a grave error. Economic development and "blight" condemnations are unconstitutional under both originalist and most "living constitution" theories of legal interpretation. They also victimize the poor and the politically weak for the benefit of powerful interest groups, and often destroy more economic value than they create. Kelo itself exemplifies these patterns. The residents targeted for condemnation lacked the influence needed to combat the formidable government and corporate interests arrayed against them.  Moreover, the city's poorly conceived development plan ultimately failed: the condemned land lies empty to this day, occupied only by feral cats.   The Supreme Court's unpopular ruling triggered an unprecedented political reaction, with forty-five states passing new laws intended to limit the use of eminent domain. But many of the new laws impose few or no genuine constraints on takings. The Kelo backlash led to significant progress, but not nearly as much as it may have seemed.   Despite its outcome, the closely divided 5-4 ruling shattered what many believed to be a consensus that virtually any condemnation qualifies as a public use under the Fifth Amendment. It also showed that there is widespread public opposition to eminent domain abuse. Kelo and Eminent Domain – The Grasping Hand and its dangers By Mike Mertens This is an extremely engaging and well-written work on the Kelo Decision and Eminent Domain. Ilya Somin has done a great job of explaining the Kelo decision – the specifics of the case, how we got to a point where this decision could happen, and how we can better understand the aftermath.Somin begins by giving the history and background of the Kelo v City of New London case. His second chapter shows how the “public use” clause got expanded to public purpose. He covers the history of the “public use” clause from the Founding Era, through the changes with the Fourteenth Amendment and into the Progressive Era (culminating in the Berman and Midkiff cases). This is one of the best chapters in the book and, in my mind, this chapter alone is worth the price of the book.In the chapter on the “Perils of Public Purpose”, we learn a lot of about the unexpected impacts of condemnations and blight takings. While these often sound reasonable, the impacts are often quite different than one would expect. Here is an important passage: “over the years, the concept of ‘blight’ has been expanded so far that, in many states, almost any area can be declared blighted and thereby open to condemnation.”He then discusses the Kelo decision itself and its aftermath. Here are just a few of the things you will learn:• The erroneous analysis by a Supreme Court justice (admitted by the justice himself)• The Political backlash and why its success was not as great as it first seemed• The role of Rational Ignorance – “The majority cannot defeat the ‘sinister views’ of a well organized minority, if the majority does not know what is going on.”• The danger of judicial deference (to legislatures) and the importance of judicial review and judicial engagement• Detailed analysis of several ideas on how to limit eminent domain abuseSomin concludes with some key lessons from the Kelo case and its aftermath. Leef Professor Somin's book is THE book to read if you want to understand the legal, economic, and human problems that occur when governments have the authority to take property from one person and give it to another on the theory that the original owner wasn't making the best use of it. The idea that such takings comport with the Constitution is very shaky, and when we look at particular instances where it has been done, most famously in Kelo v. New London, we see just how ugly it is. Somin really opens the reader's eyes to the hidden scheming behind this plan and the appalling way local officials harassed the people who just wanted to be left in peace in their homes. And in case you weren't aware, the plan fell through and all the destruction was for nothing. Just look at the before and after photos. Raketti Ilya Somin knocks it out of the park with this authoritative work on the impact and fallout of the Kelo v. City of New London decision by the US Supreme Court: identifying, among other things, why the application of the takings power across the United States (whereby the government takes property from one person (usually poor) and gives to another person (usually rich) and thereby wrecks havoc on the lives of average Americans all for the benefit of a select and well connected few. The book is comprehensive and does a good job of tracing the efforts, undertaken in the aftermath of the Kelo decision, to redress the problem at the level of state legislatures—providing something of an object lesson in how a wrong-headed judicial decision can galvanize the political apparatus to make a serious attempt at reforming the law. Unfortunately, as the author points out in fine detail, many of these efforts that grew out of Kelo have failed to address many of the primary problems that lay at the heart of mis-use and abuse of the takings power. Nevertheless the Kelo story offers a useful lesson in how groups might go about leveraging a bad decision to bring about reform at the political/legislative level.On a side note, for future editions, it could prove interesting to consider the comparative implications of this story vis-á-vis other common law jurisdictions, such as in Canada (beyond those already contemplated to a limited extent by the author, such as his referencing analgoues from other common law judicial decisions).Highly recommend this book to anyone interested in thinking seriously about what needs to be done, and what can be done, to address this endemic problem within the American polity.

I just was looking for recipes for skin and hair care products because I don't want to buy any chemical products anymore which are not good for my skin. I was really impressed by the great selection. I never thought that it is so easy to make your own products. And it is more healthy and less expensive than buying all these chemical products. I wish I had started earlier to make my own healthy products. It is very impressive for what else you can use essential oils. Step by step I will have my own pharmacy at home.

Awesome Resource By reahcat I have been living a prepared life for several years now and I found information that I could utilize in my lifestyle. This book is great for the beginner and for the seasoned preparer. Daisy has really upped the ante with this book.In this book you will learn how to start a prepared pantry from absolutely nothing. There is a step by step process that is definitely doable and logical. Daisy’s personal story is commendable and shows that you don’t have to be rolling in money to build a nutritional and bountiful pantry. On a budget of practically nothing you can accomplish what you might feel would be impossible. Daisy’s story is proof, you can do it too.There are tips to follow beginning with virtually nothing and progressing to a more secure life knowing your family is eating well. You will learn how to shop, how to save money, and how to meal plan while you are achieving your desired pantry of plenty.She also gives step-by-step instructions so even if you have never preserved or stored foods you will feel confident in starting your stockpile of healthy foods. In addition to all the information and resources, you will have tried and true recipes to use. This is not a recipe book but it contains just the right amount of recipes to get you prepared to cook great meals at VERY affordable prices.I HIGHLY recommend this book to both novice and seasoned meal gurus.

I am just getting started in the prepping world, don't know why I never thought of doing this before. It makes so much sense to have a stockpile of everything that you use on a day to day basis. All of her tips and years of experience makes this a valuable purchase for anyone who wants to start out making their own stockpile. I did have to customize the foods for my own gluten free diet. I found out it's not as hard as I thought to have a food supply that is clean without gmos, pesticides, and additives. It is affordable if you follow her plan and the foods you would eat every day of the week anyway. It is nice to get everything together in one book instead of spending countless hours on the internet looking all this stuff up. I do use the internet for a lot of my research projects but there are only so many hours in the day you have to get it all done. So this is saving me a lot of time. I purchased The Organic Canner also and can't wait to start on that. I recommend this book for anyone who is a newbie to the world of food preservation and prepping. You won't lend this book out to anyone once you have it.

But, I still needed the info so I tried again. BINGO!!!!What a great book! Wonderful back story on the importance of being ready for that unexpected occurrence in your life that would normally wipe out an unprepared family and force you on the dependency rolls. No thanks! I am too proud for that so I will be ready.After all the education up front about calories per person, types of food and how they are stored, etc, Daisy takes you step by step through using your existing budget to create your food storage.This is not a canning book! She is teaching you how much and how to collect food for storage.Some things, you may already know...being the non-wasteful readers that you probably already are. But, being able to catch the sale cycles was something I did not know. I have never been a couponer, but there are plenty of handy tips on how to get the most bang for your buck for food items.Also, since she is very concerned (as am I) about BIG CORPORATION's processed foods and the non-nutrition they contain, she explains the ins and outs of organic. Super!I highly recommend this book.(and also her website and FB page!)

Important Foundational Evolutionary Contributions From the Co-Discoverer of the Theory of Natural Selection By Scholastic Reader Alfred Russel Wallace (1823 - 1913) truly is a forgotten giant who independently, in 1858, concluded and published (1 year before the publication Darwin's "Origin of Species" in 1859) the first major contribution to the theory of Natural Selection (Paper # 2 in this volume). Wallace does not use the term "Natural Selection" in the paper, but the idea of Natural Selection is clearly there. Darwin coins the term 1 year later in his publication (though the term was used by Darwin in 2 older unpublished essays/sketches from 1842 and 1844). Of course, according to Richard Dawkins in "Seeing Further: The Story of Science, Discovery, and the Genius of the Royal Society", Edward Blyth in 1935 and Patrick Matthew in 1931 had already published on natural selection.In a paper from 1855 (Paper # 1 in this volume), 4 years before the publishing of "Origin of Species", one can see how Wallace's ideas on evolution were resembling Natural Selection already. Thus, Darwin's contributions were not new or unique since others had come up with similar conclusions and ideas already (Lamarck, Wallace, Lyell, Chambers). See the end of this review for links to other books which document the history of such simple ideas as natural selection and evolution. In fact in 1858, Wallace sent Darwin his independent derivation (Paper # 2 in this volume) of the theories of Natural Selection and evolution after reading Malthus' An Essay on the Principle of Population (Oxford World's Classics) years before. Malthus' essay impacted both men heavily on natural selection specifically and evolution in general since it dealt with limits of populations, resources, reproduction, and survival. For instance, Darwin wrote in his autobiography (1876), "In October 1838, that is, fifteen months after I had begun my systematic inquiry, I happened to read for amusement Malthus on Population, and being well prepared to appreciate the struggle for existence which everywhere goes on from long-continued observation of the habits of animals and plants, it at once struck me that under these circumstances favorable variations would tend to be preserved, and unfavorable ones to be destroyed. The results of this would be the formation of a new species. Here, then I had at last got a theory by which to work."Another major influence in both Darwin and Wallace was Charles Lyell. Lyell had discussed ideas on evolution in the 1830s and both Darwin and Wallace used his work, such as Principles of Geology, Volume 2, in developing their views. Though Volume 1 and 3 of Lyell's work pushed for uniformitarianism and extended the history of the earth to long epochs that fluctuated through time but balancing out as an average, Volume 2 was the one that influenced Darwin the most since it mentioned extensive discussions on gradual and slow evolutionary theories, limits of transmutations of species, artificial selection, the balancing of increases and decreases of plant and animal populations, distributions of animals, etc; and was with him in the Beagle. Another important work before Wallace and Darwin's thesis was Robert Chambers 1844 publication called Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation and Other Evolutionary Writings. This was an earlier publication on progressive/gradual evolution than both Wallace and Darwin which inspired Wallace in 1845 to seek out a law on transmutation and origin of species. The rest is history.For Wallace's autobiography and his independent derivation of the theory of natural selection, details on his relationship with Darwin, and his life as an avid empirical researcher on geographical distribution of animals please read My Life: A Record of Events and Opinions, Volume 1 and Volume 2.Wallace concluded via geological evidence and geographical distribution of animals, among other arguments, that gradual evolution occurred in long epochs accounting for the origin of all species and that species grew and diverged when they adapted and diminished when they failed to adapt. This constituted an evolutionary theory that Charles Darwin would eventually arrive at and match. Wallace's view is slightly different than Darwin's view in that Darwin saw evolution as just a "process" theory and Wallace saw evolution as a Law of Nature in the same way as Gravitation was seen as a Law at that time. In that sense Wallace was more hardcore in his view of evolution than Darwin was.This collection of essays are really important since they carry Wallace's original 1858 work that first mentioned the view that would be later called "natural selection" and put pressure on Darwin to publish his views of gradual evolution in the "Origin of Species".Here are the essay titles with topics mentioned and discussed by Alfred Russel Wallace in these monumental and forgotten papers :1. "On the Law which has Regulated the Introduction of New Species" (1855)This is Wallace's 1855 paper published in "Annals and Magazine of Natural History" where he sets up concepts similar to Darwin's later theory. The notes on this essay mention the relationship of Wallace's early paper(s) to Darwin, in page 21.Here there is discussion on how Geology hints at diversification of the earth and so do species via geological epochs and geographic distribution of species; extinction and renewal of species; Wallace's core foundation for gradual evolution: Geological distribution of species and Geographical distribution of species ; the Galapagos; his theory is of "gradual change" not "progression"; Wallace's used the analogy of a tree (like Darwin's Tree of Life) to represent how species emerged; older species have been more complex than current species, objections to Forbes' "Theory of Polarity" and assuming that the number of species on Earth in the past are not much less than the present number since extinctions and creations balance each other out at some point; "Rudimentary Organs" - vestigial organs and physiological imperfections; the Law that introduces new species is deduced necessarily like the Law of Elliptic Orbits of Planets or the Law of Gravitation.2. "On the Tendency of Varieties to Depart Indefinitely from the Original Type" (1858)This is the monumental work that co-established (I say "first" established) the theory of "Natural Selection" - published in "Proceedings of the Linnaean Society" along with Darwin's paper; addresses the "reversion of species to back to parent species" argument by population and number of offspring being more than 2 usually; struggle for existence; adaption to conditions of existence is the reason for rarity or abundance of a species and its survival; good variations of species increase, bad variations of species decrease; superior variations of species surpass and survive; Lamarck challenged3. "Mimicry and Other Protective Resemblances among Animals" (1867)Theories on color and camouflage in animals; protection for animals other than color; one case of "intelligently designed" resemblance where design and intention is visible: flies that enter bee's nest; mimicry among insects, snakes, birds, mammals; objections to Bates' "Theory of Mimicry" and "Special Creation Theory" countered; sexual selection of female insects, birds; camouflage used to protect or to easily prey upon other creatures; "survival of the fittest"; color as "utility" by Darwin4. "The Malayan Papilionidae or Swallow Tailed Butterflies as Illustrative of the Theory of Natural Selection" (1864)Lepidoptera or butter flies as evidence for speciation; "species" and "origin" are defined, variation of six types: simple variability, polymorphism, local forms, co-existing varieties, races or subspecies, true species ; natural selection may work independently from sexual selection ; ambiguities of varieties and identification of speciation deduced by opinion; variation influenced by locality5. "On Instinct in Man and Animals" (1871)Organization in insects; "instinct" defined; man and instinct?; Wallace does not believe in the "Theory of Instinct"6. "The Philosophy of Bird's Nests" (1867)Birds building nests is not by instinct and men do not build by reason; men build according to necessity and resources; birds do the same with resources they encounter; birds in cages do not make the same nest as their species do in the wild; birds do not sing songs of their species, they sing and mimic the songs of whatever birds they hear; mainly men are the same in tribes and villages in that they imitate too; birds do alter and improve nesting when they find better equipment or the locations become dangerous7. "A Theory of Bird's Nests" (1868)Types of nests; the Law of sexual differences in color and nesting practices (240); sexual selection; exceptions to the Law8. "Creation by Law" (1867)Law of Multiplication in Geometrical Progression, Law of Limited Populations, Law of Heredity, Law of Variation, Law of Constant Physical Change of the Earth, the Equilibrium; Herbert Spencer's "Principles of Biology"; "self-regulating" natural laws alone can produce all creatures; a Creator could have made these laws; Darwin's metaphorical and teleological language causes misconceptions; examples of Geological adaptations by just general laws; the Theory of "Continual Interference" where the Creator intercedes is believed to actually limit the Creator's powers as a creative force and does not do justice to the Creator's power to create and design a self-diversifying creation; adaption MUST have the appearance of design; beauty in nature has advantages for reproduction purposes; Wallace argues that we should not assume the Creator's mind to be like our own in terms of our criterion for beauty and ugliness; Duke of Argyll's "Special Creation" view is countered; effects of breeding; variation has no limits; argument from "not enough time to cause much variation" addressed9. "The Development of Human Races under the Law of Natural Selection" (1864)Anthropologists say man is not recent but has existed 1,000 centuries ago; wide differences of opinion on Man's origin; anthropological data from cultures races of humans; differences in natural selection in animals and man; extinction in lower forms of man; origins of races of man - man was a homogeneous race at some point; man's brain grew and this `mind' gave man supremacy nature; man has escaped and taken away power from natural selection; savage and civilized man have differences culturally, not physically; 1. By intellect man makes better technology and 2. By better moral feelings man is fit for a social state; man will still progress via natural selection both physically and mentally10. "Limits of Natural Selection as Applied to Man" (1869)(Intelligently Designed Evolution)Not all nature can be explained by just natural principles; limits of natural selection; size of brain is key to higher species; man's brain compared to brain of apes; intellects of savages and animals compared; man's unhariyness, hands, feet voice, mental faculties, and moral sense are all insufficiently explained by natural selection; the origin and other views of origins of consciousness as not compatible with reality; the nature of matter; two forces: primary forces (Gravitation) and will-forces; the rise of the will; all force may be will-force from multiple Intelligences or one Supreme Intelligence ; will-force can be deduced from the facts from the sciencesTropical Nature and Other Essays (this whole section is made up essays which show further diversity in thought):1. "The Climate and Physical Aspects of the Equatorial Zone"2. "Equatorial Vegetation"3. "Animal Life in Tropical Forests"4. "Hummingbirds: As Illustrating the Luxuriance of Tropical Nature"5. "The Colours of Animals and Sexual Selection"6. "The Colours of Plants and the Origins of Colour-Sense"7. "The Antiquity and Origin of Man"8. "The Antiquity of Man in North America"9. "The Debt of Science to Darwin"Truly a remarkable collection of papers. Alfred Russel Wallace is a forgotten giant in evolutionary biology and is rarely mentioned in textbooks or anywhere really, but when he is is he is not emphasized much. It would be wise to read his contributions to the ideas for natural selection to see the whole picture of the Wallace - Darwinian Theory.For a historical look at evolutionary theories by the ancient Greeks and early Christians please read From the Greeks to Darwin: an outline of the development of the evolution idea to see how old and how ancient evolutionary theories are. For further reading on other evolutionary theories please look at Lamarck's wonderful 1809 work Zoological Philosophy, An Exposition with Regard to the Natural History of Animals which was basically the first complete and coherent "modern" evolutionary theory. Another primary work of interest on the history of evolutionary theories is Julian Huxley's Evolution: The Modern Synthesis which summarized how evolution was finally synthesized with disparate information from many separate fields within the branches of biology (i.e. genetics, systematics, etc) and paleontology in the 1930's and 1940's, not before. Its was an interesting point in time for evolution narratives and that book was considered as one of the main summaries of, what Huxley called, the "Neo-Darwinian" view. One interesting discussion point in that book is how evolutionary theory is inherently a deductive theory, not an inductive one.For information on the new evolutionary theory that is going to go beyond Wallace and Darwin's purposed mechanism and how molecular data has challenged the Wallace-Darwinian gradual evolution by interviews with molecular evolutionary biologists and astrobiologists that feel the need to propose a newer evolutionary synthesis, please read The Altenberg 16: An Exposé of the Evolution Industry and the proceedings of a new evolutionary theory in Evolution - the Extended Synthesis.
