About the Author Martin Tompa is a Professor of Computer Science & Engineering and an Adjunct Professor of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington. He teaches courses on discrete mathematics, probability and statistics, design and analysis of algorithms, and other related topics. Outside of work he plays cards as often as possible.

Winning Schnapsen teaches probability concepts along with the play of the game. It will interest people who love puzzles, math, games, and just to be challenged. Stories of the author’s family are interwoven with the card play examples, giving insight into the tumultuous times in Europe of the 1920s to 1940s. Highly recommended!

The best book on Schnapsen that is out there By Florian Wisser This is the first book worldwide that systematically discusses strategies forsuccessful play of Schnapsen. No prior knowledge of the game is necessary toread the book. Using examples from real game situations, there is discussion ofdifferent aspects of the strategy, from basic techniques such as trump controlin the endgame to throw-in, expected gain, and discarding valuable cards todeceive the opponent. The final chapter contains examples from all thepreviously discussed areas of strategy, embedded in stories from the familyhistory of the author's father from the interwar period to emigration duringthe Second World War. The detailed and thorough analyses will definitely helpto improve your game. If you want to learn Schnapsen or are already apassionate player, this is the book to get!

Starting with a gentle introduction to the game, and working through strategic concepts from the basic to the advanced, "Winning Schnapsen" is a must have for anyone looking to improve their game. I particularly liked the appendices with a glossary, and approachable explanations of the current state of Schnapsen-related research.
