1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. One of my favorite texts By Laura I love this desk reference! It is a great starting point for everything social workers need to know. The chapters are written by various prominent scholars in the field, in their areas of expertise. Each chapter is built on the foundational knowledge of preexisting literature and how it relates to current day social work areas of interest. I began my MSW program a few years ago, and I wish that I had this book sooner in my journey. It would have given me a great point of reference for most of the topics we covered in my first year. I would have rather read chapters of this book before other texts because this textbook is more clearly written and nicely organized than some of my other texts. These chapters set a good foundation for students or social workers from which to build greater knowledge. Most of the chapters are relatively in depth, and they each provide websites, references, and other helpful information at the end of the chapter. I have the kindle version of this book, which I love. The Kindle is nice because I can have my iPhone read the book to me as I drive. I also purchased a hard copy of this book as well, because I like having a tangible item when I know I am going to be referencing the text frequently. You can take notes and highlight in Kindle, which saves across devices. You to access the book very easy because the Kindle app or website is available everywhere. Whichever version of this book you choose, you will be happy with it. The Kindle makes it easier to access, provides reading options, notes, and highlighters. The hardcopy may be better if you like a tangible book to highlight, take notes, etc. This book is enormous, so it is not the easiest to carry around, especially if you have other things on you. Both versions have an excellent layout and are easy to read.
